4.Entani vinavintura evarito - urmikA -Pallavi Shesha Iyer

I was planning to hear this vidushi,sangeetha swaminathan who is a performing disciple of sudha raghunathan . She only performs during kutcheri season as she is settled in US.

sangeetha S has a very high azhuttam in her voice and definitely classical. Her start in navarAgamAliga varnam was quite well done , I am not sure if she sang all the 9 ragas , I could distinctively identify the most prominent kedaram and begada, kambOdhi , shree , kalyAni and bilahari .

The next number was nA jeeva dhAra , this krithi is not sung that much in these days , infact I only recollect few violinist playing this number and a vintage maharajapuram santhanam singing in a live concert. Her bilahari was not that great ,incidentally I think this pallavi line of this krithi is sung more number of times than a usual krithi by all musicians , I dont know why (possibly ThyagarAja had to work out a lot as he is believed to take the poison out of a snake victim composing this song), personally I was bit bitten more by mediocrity bug here and not the snake

Every number from subhapantuvarALi was very good or excellent .She gave a very MLV'ish alApana in subhapantuvarali very contemplative and her voice is very soothing ,her azhuttam was very classical.The famous T krithi was sung quite well perhaps the neraval was just coasting along quite well, the swaras were very brief and was not that great.To the surprise she went to tani that meant she is singing pallavi to me.
A fast number in a rare rAga urmika unfolded , I wish she had announced it,it was just ok.

This concert was RTP centric , about 40 minutes was dwelt on only the rtp, both vasanta and kalyAna vasantham were brief and to the point , tAnam was lovely with only tAnamish phrases in madhyama kAlam, I was expecting a high speed tAnam but she did not deliver it , both the alApanai and tAnam was sung alternately in vasantha and kalyAna vasantham.

The pallavi line had a vasanthA and a long wagging kalyAna vasantham tail, very aesthetic it was for most of the part .She did trikalam and gave a short burst of swaras in both rAgas . Her rAgamaliga swaras were excellent throughout , though when she started i felt she could have sung more in the two ragas , but as she sang each of them varamu ,valaci and chArukesi , the fairly expansive treatment was excellent , each of the ragas had a hindustani aura but ended with carnatic sangathis after few avarthanas . Thillana in sindhubhairavi was sung and she kept up her class.

The violinst nishant chandran played the subhapantuvarali and dual raga rtp very well , he had sowkhyam and a very consistent shruthi.His replies were also very good.

I have seen melacauvery balaji playing usually better than what he played today, but definitely his play was apt to sangeetha's aesthetic . sukanyA was very good and her play in tani was nice.

OVerall an extremely satisfying concert.Hearing Sangeetha swaminathan , the classicism was there but possibly little more time for her would have been wonderful. To an extent as of today when hearing the other sangeetha sivakumar , this sangeetha swaminathan appears to have more azhuttam and her voice is quite melliflous. Hope she turns out to be a promising 2nd generation disciple of MLV , some one has to reach the summit MLV.

Overall a very good to excellent concert.

Does the charanam of this thillana start with "Endha veliyum kandha velaiye"? If so, it is a composition of Tanjavur S. Kalyanaraman
