Vocal : VijaySiva
Violin : RK Shriram kumar
Mrudangam : Trichy Sankaran
KanjirA : BS PurushOtaman
Concert duration : 2 hours and 45 minutes
I wanted to go to TMK at academy , but did not get tickets. I have been to this same combination in the same kalarasanA for the last 3 out of 5 years, the interest was not vijay siva alone but also this brain drained professor trichy sankaran
Vijay's buildup till submain was classical madi madi sangeetham, the choice of rAgas was all top notch and the trinity were show cased up . His start was his usual trademark start slokham and then went to MD krithi , may be I felt there could have been little dose of swaras there.
The transformation into mukhAri was superb , this thyagaraja krithi of him had the right diction , no perfect diction and was aesthetic, neraval was precise and well cut with a slight sprinkle of swaras. From mukhAri he moved from a speedy one to a more semi contemplative one , it was kedaram and a rare abhayambika composition unfolded with a beautiful alapana.Diction of sanskrit was as impeccable as telugu.
DhanyAsi was the submain and it was shyama sastri's meenalochana , I liked the krithi little more than alApana and the fairly short neraval , but he did few swara aksharam in the swaras matching da mA pA matching the first phrase of neraval.
1A. sadA bAla rupA "slOkham" - begaDa
1B. vallabhA nAyakasyA - bEgaDa - MD
2. sangeetha sAstra gnamU (N S)- mukHAri - T
neraval in "prema bhakthi sayanA vAtsalyamu??" neraval for 4 mins
3 mins swaras
3. ambikAyam avayAmbikayam (R) - kEdAram - MD
5 mins alapana and 3 mins violin
4. meenalOchana (R N S) - dhanyAsi - SS
5 mins alApana and 4 mins violin
3 mins neraval in "tAmA pAlini bhAvani" for 3 mins
6 mins swaras
Vijay continued with a big filler of jAnaki pathE in kharaharapriyA . The days best was undoubtedly the main KAMbOdhi , the alapana had both fatherly scolding and motherly cajoling , nice aesthetics with the epic krithi shree subramanyAya with a brief slokham before to ensure a great take off was aestheticallly perfect. Vijay looked he forgot few lines towards the end and then traversed again and took up neraval in vAsavathi with the mEl Kalam neraval to start with and then few keezh Kalam, if alap krithi and neraval were outstanding rendition ,the swaras were a bit not that expansive , he sang quite well
5. jAnaki pathE - kharaharapriyA - psivan
6A. kAmbodhi alapanai with violin return for 14 mins and 8 mins respectively
6B. slokham in kAMbOdhi ???
6C. shree subramanyAya (R N S T) - kAmbOdhi - MD
7 mins neraval in "vAsavAthi sakala deva"
7 mins swaras
6D. tani for 22 minutes
what must have been an excellent to outstanding to me till then , dipped half notch because he did not sing a vistaramana pallavi in shanmughapriyA .It was slightly disappointing to hear a shortened version of an ever expansive shanmughapriyA. atleast alapana was quite good ,tAnam and swaras could have had more energy like a typical pallavi of say suryaprakash or a sanjay. IT just fizzled out.
All the tukkadas were well done ,vijay siva pays most attention to cover all carnatic languages he took two in thamizh with a lovely 3 raga viruththam an an excellent dasar number in sindhubhairavi .
7. RTP in shanmughapriyA
4 mins alapanai and 2 mins violin
5 mins tAnam
9 mins pallavi and swaras in shanmughapriyA
few minutes of mini tani by percussionists
8. ini enna pEchu - sahAnA - vaithEEshwaran kOvil subbaraman
9A. virutham "innamum solvayO un manam kAllO" - yamunA kalyANi + ?(prashanth will help here)? + shenjuruTTi-?
9B. Adi pasupathi - shenjuruTTi ?? - ?
10. hari vasArada - sindhubhairavi - PD
11. pavamAna + swasti prajA
RKSK response was to the point and really well done , but may be just may be his nAdham from violin could have added more touch of honey. Sankaran played beautifully most of the time , especially when any sangathis or krithis have fast kalApramanam his enthusiasm is indeed uplifting , his tani was very good , a year or two back it was far better. BSP gave very good support.
Bumped into prashant and just before kickoff an apt forumite uday. One has to learn from uday's daughter the nostradamus insight she was able to just walk out during the end of alap in RTP , she knew it would be too short .
Overall if the pallavi was more detailed i would have been very very satisfied , still an excellent concert , vijay and team brought classical music in classical way.

All the songs are my favorite. RTP duration is very small.
Hope someone can resume releasing new albums of VS.
Surprisingly I find more albums of youngsters like Sandeep, Sikkil than Vijaysiva in charsur.
