KAMBHOJI all the way !!! I am just back home after attending yet another Sanjay concert (the only artist to whom I listen!!!) and it was a Kambhoji to be savoured for a life time.
More details to follow.

The concert certainly possessed a great energy, but it was at the cost of aesthetics in many places. Subtlety would have enhanced the concert multifold. Thyagaraja Yoga Vaibhavam faced the wrath of the artist as he shouted rather than sang the song. Many of the nuances did not come through because of this. The Kambhoji alapana was a little too long drawn to savour its flavour. The Kiravani could have been better as well.

The RTP was fantastic. The raga chosen was very pleasing and the exposition was done well. The violinist's alapana was exceptional. The swaras were rendered in ragamalika including Sahaana, Anandabharavi, Neelambari, Huseini, Atana and Behag (sorry if I've missed out any). The violinist's accompaniment was very able and sleek. It was very enjoyable. On the whole, the RTP seemed to be the only salvage for the concert.

The percussion artists provided the listeners with a wonderful Tani avartanam and also accompanied Mr. Sanjay Subrahmanyam most admirably.

Another gem, I would say. Kamboji and the RTP were great. Varadarajan was sharp as ever. Enjoyed the tani by two stalwarts with so much energy. Wish the master volume was turned down by a notch or two and this has been the case in most of the sabas I go to.. There was a query from a rasika on the RTP raga and Sanjay promptly referred him to Music Academy sessions.

I was sitting right at the front there was not that much volume in that place and it was very nice and soothing. actually i played a concert the previous day for V.Shankaranarayanan and the feed back for the artistes was awful and below par making the artiste on stage sweat a lot. Moreover when the screen at the centre of the auditorium was removed for the sake of next (Sikkil Gurucharan) concert i could hear the speakers at the far end of the auditorium reverberate and produce a deep echo signifying that the volume at the far end was high also because it could not be controlled as it was facing the far end wall which rebounces the sound produced by the giant speakers making the listeners feel that Sanjay sang at a high voice whereas it is not so as he rendered very beautifully a vintage kambojhi and other ragas..... It is the Hall that needs to be blamed if you sit at the back you are bound to have a bang on your ears and it is not the artiste's fault.

Amazing level of energy in the concert esp. the Kambodhi.

I felt that initial Kambodhi dilineation was somewhat ambiguous with too many shades of Harikambodhi showing.

An audience member asked a question when the raga was announced for the RTP and the answer could find a place in the "Hilarity in kucheris" thread :)

The question was "What is the difference between this ragam and the raga Janasammodhini"? :)
