Dear Cool,
You are amazing !
It is indeed his birthday as per Gregorian calendar (18-7-1919).
But as he was blessed to be born on the goddess chamundeswari's vardahanti , his birthday as per Indian calendar was on July 17 this year . So whether people remember or not, family remembers him or not, he is always remembered in the abode of goddess always.
To day morning I was humbled when I went in search of a statue of the maharaja which I had heard was installed a couple of years ago in the busy & dirty Kalasipalyam Bus stand. I had presumed the corporation or the state govet had commissioned the work. But when I went in search of it, I met a nonagenarian gentlemen Govindswamy Mudaliar who had from his own resources spent 10 lakhs to construct a statue of the maharaja near a temple complex of Lokamatha of which he is Darma Darshi! He did not even know today was his birthday and he was celebrating every year on 31 march on which day he had got the Statue inaugurated by some politicians! He was pleased to know and decided henceforth he will celebrate his birthday!
As i came home i saw your post. words fail me . May goddess Chamundeswari bless you great souls.

Raja Chandra, can you recollect a small makeshift teastall at the Mekhri Circle junction (near that plaque that announces the junction)? Since childhood I have seen HH's picture hanging on the wall there and whenever I passed that way, I made it a point to catch a glimpse of it.
As you aptly say, whoever remembers him or not, surely he will be in Amba's memories. Who knows, probably he might be singing krithis in Amba's presence in Shripuram.

vAgadhISvarI nuta padAmbhOruham- Him Whose lotus-feet are eulogised by the mistress of speech(saraswatI);
vAmAnka gaurI SObhitam- Him resplendent with gaurI seated on his left thigh;
vAk arthAdi pratipAditam- Him manifesting in the word and its meaning;
kALidAsa,s first verse in kumArasambhava is
vAgarthAviva sampR^ktau vAgartha pratipattayE |
jagataH pitarau vandE pArvatIparamESvarau ||1-1||
The meaning is "Like the vAk (speech) and artha (meaning), which are eternally joined together, so also pArvati and paramESvara are eternally joined together. I salute the parents of the world to gain knowledge of word and meaning."
sAmagAna Asaktam- Him interested in sAmagAna;
sad bhakta jana abhIShTa dAna niratam- Him engrossed in granting the wishes of his righteous devotees;satatam- ever.
kAla atItam- Him Who is beyond time(not limited by time);
kalA prati pAditam-?; kAmArai iti khyAtam- Him famous as kAmAri, the foe of manmatha;
kRpAnvitam- Him filled with kindness;

pratipAdanam means restoring or giving back. And kAlA of course means dharmarAja(yama).kalA prati pAditam-?
Hence i believe this is the reference to the restoration of the life to mArkaNDeya at the instance of vAmadEva (Siva). Or according to another puranic version kAlA himself was killed by Siva and later restored to life at the request of brahma!

Factually correct. But the common meaning for pratipAdita "which is taught/explained/ expounded" by.cmlover wrote:pratipAdanam means restoring or giving back.
You are confusing between kalA and kAla. kalA is a symbolic name for the number "16" (ShODaSa kalA). So kalA pratipAdita could mean "HIm who is explained by/exponded in the 16" Now the 16 could refer to the mahAShODaSIvidyA which is the SrIvidyA that is expressed in the esoteric 16 syllables. Or it vould refer to any of the other "16" groups like samskAras/upacAras etc.
And if we take the meaning of "restoring or giving back", then it could be interpreted as a reference to him giving back the sixteen kaLes to candra(moon) and making him pUrNakalAdhara , redeming him from the curse of dakSha.

Although I gave the meaning of "rejuvenating the moon" as a possibilit, the probability of that meaning is very small. pratipAdita is almost always used in the sense of "taught/explained /expounded". The meaning of "giving back" is an "akhyAta"(unpopular) meaning and may hay be use once or few times. Iam aware that the sanskrit dictionary lists the meaning but that does not reflect the popularity or frequency of use. Just do an online search on "pratipadita" and check the usages that you come up with. All of the usages give the meaning of "explained/taught" only. Looking for the akhyAta meaning is like looking for a needle in a haystack. I did not manage to find the needle.
One other thing I would like to point out here. There are lots of sanskrit words that are used in kannaDa as well and hence the context and shades of meaning of these words are much more clear to someone knowing and using kannaDa. "pratipAdisu" is one such word. Now it is not a word used in day-to-day conversation but in literary circles and is hence not subject to the same changes in meanings and contexts that a word used by the layman is. I agree to what DRS says about pratipADitam; pratipAdane is used quite commonly when one talks about
someone explaining a theory or making an idea clear.
That is not to say some very common Samskrita words, have become very common in Kannda, but with
twisted meanings! (eg: anumAna, khaMDita). But I think pratipAdita does not fall into that group.

The meaning given for 'pratipAdita' in Apte in order is:
1. Giving, granting, bestowing.
2. Demonstrating, proving, establishing.
3. Treating of, explaining, exponding, illustrating.
4. Effecting, accomplishing, fulfillment.
5, Causing, producing.
6. Repeated action, practice
7. Commencement.
As you agree the most popular one is 'giving/granting/bestowing'. Accordingly the expression translates to 'bestowing the kalA (16 of them)'; to whom? (to me the obvious answer is 'candra'; but your esoteric explanation is 'mahAShODashIyavidya' and both will fit) (perhaps he meant both!). Note your choice of 'expoundin/demonstrating/...' is a less frequent choice.

as for as pratipAdita ,we kannidagas associate with the second definition you have listed

No doubt the generic explanation of all 'arts' being expounded by Siva will fit! There must be some puranic reference too like that of the Siva sUtra in the shaiva Agamas!
I noticed your description has four faces, whereas the wikipedia description is five faced,

vAgadhISvari is the 34th sampUrNa mELa. Its swaras are
SR3G3M1PD2N2S* | S*NDPMGRS ||
It is a pleasing rAga that gives rise to SAntarasa. R.R.Keshavamurthy mentions that G, D and N are the jIva and nyAsa swaras. The RShabha has to be used repeatedly to nicely bring out the rAga bhAva. tyAgarAja's "paramAtmuDu velige" is very well-known. And there is also "vANi vAgadhISvari" (Is that GNB's?). Its asampUrNa equivalent is bhOgacchAyAnATa.

There is also a nice composition of Dr BMK "praNamAmyahaM srI pAMkEruhAsanAm" in vAgadhISvari.
On an unrelated note, do the Kannada readers here (DRS, RC, Coolkarni, arasi....) notice that the
dIrgha symbol is missing in the shlOka in the manuscript of srItattvanidhi ( eg in dEva, sarOja etc)
on udIchyAm, an extension to the "guNisu" is seen as in current Telugu script. But on the Es and Os
it is completely missing. If you have something to share on this please post your thoughts.

This is quite common in olden day texts. As there is only one E and O in sanskrit, it does not matter how you write. It can be read only in one way. And omiting the dIrgha symbols saves time and ink.

The wikipedia article does not say vAmadEva is 5-faced. It only mentions "vAmadEva" as the face on the right-hand side in a 5-faced linga.. And we all know that vAmadEva is the name of one of the 5 faces of ISvara.
