Yes, her margazhi festival concerts are special indeed.
I heard that on the way to her concert, she paid homage to her guru at an event where Dr.S. Ramanathan was honored (our VKV arranged it). I hear she spoke with such endearment about her guru whom she adored. She would have been inspired indeed, after attending that gathering, brimming with thoughts about her guru when she sang.

Usually Thematic concerts are delivered taking a composer or shtalam or etc and then following
the ariyakudi format or atleast on the line of his format. With this kind of topic
the format is unpredictable. Wondering probably the songs in each raga had
different patterns(melodies) of the raga and hence this format.

Yes

You are right. The concert was built around the concept of how the same raga sounds / feels in classical and folk music. Let's have the OP gather his/her thoughts and post in detail... however, any verbal description is not going to do justice to the scope of the actual presentation. Hopefully the excerpts aired later this month on Jaya TV will help :)

This has been raised many times here and other forums and the organizers seem uninterested in producing CDs. This is 10th year od MMU.

actually they produced cds one year and were on display at cleveland festival. some controversy about subasree thanikasalam compelling them to pay costs for albums produced by her company. guess thats why they dint try again.

hello... this is subhasree thanikachalam. we abide by the agreement with the channel and artiste that no form of commercial recordings will be made. MMU strives on good will and support from the artistes. not with money. and i have never brought out a single cd or DVD that are recordings of MMU. what you found in cleveland were exclusive commercial recordings which were requested by upcoming artistes for their own promotion. please do not say "SUBHASREE DID NOT PAY THE ARTISTES". CD DVD production and royalty money making is not my profession. Whatever efforts i am making for the sake of carnatic music on television, is sincerely my passion and i just request this forum to support the art. you may find all the recordings in YOUTUBE sincerely posted by fans and followers for which i am still answering one million questions to the broadcast committee.

Subashree - I have subscribed to Jaya TV here in North America and I am able to catch a glimpse of the season through the Margazhi Mahotsavam program. I very much appreciate your efforts to telecast Carnatic Music on TV. Great effort. Congratulations on completing 10 years and wishing you success for many many more years to come - Ungal Pani thodarattum

I also enjoy watching your ragamalika program. Nice show that brings out great talent.

I can imagine how tough that is when yanking them is much easier. Thank you for putting up the resistance and saving them on the rasikas behalf. Though we know there is a chance it will show up online, we subscribed to Jaya TV on Dish Network primarily for MMU and other cultural programs.

Maximum Media did produce a VCD album for Charulatha, entitled "Nostalgia" during the 2003(?) Jaya TV Mahotsavam. It was a long time ago, but as far as I can remember, it had no material from the TV telecast, but was an entirely separate shoot, reusing only the stage (which was tastefully designed). The production quality was good and the offered package was reasonably priced. The VCD was well received and all 200-odd copies sold out quite fast.

Thanks a lot Subashree for all your efforts in promoting Carnatic music. We used to subscribe to Numtv till last year just to watch Jaya TV MMU and Cleveland thyagaraja aradhana in April. We are very happy this year that Jaya TV is being telecasted by Dish Network this year.

We have a request : Can you request Jaya TV to telecast the entire concert of 2 hrs (either one hour in the morning and evening) or two hours at a stretch since this is the only concert that we get to watch. Now, it is only like watching thukkudas since half of the time is taken by the commercials and the question and answer time.

Anyway, we really thank you from the bottom of our heart in taking so much interest in promoting Carnatic music.

Subhsashreeji you are really doing a great work to CM. You have really brought Carnatic Music live in to our homes.
Now that this Marghazhi Mahotsavam as also the Cleveland programmes has been going on for nearly five years Jaya TV should be having a good collection of the Kutcheries also. My only request is whether you could prevail upon Jaya TV to telecast the entire concert of 2 hrs may be in two sessions on a Sunday or a Saturday after the present regular schedule is over.

It definitely did. Fantastic program. PunngavaraLi, Mukhari and nadanamakriya were top notch

The folk mukhari did not have much of a mukhari feel for me. I used to consider such songs as folk bhairavi, now I know better.

Saw the telecast y'day. By far the best concert of the Jaya TV series. It's already there on Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/user/kamakotisan ... 09EAF10E2F

Agreed. Sowmya's presentation reflects her sound knowledge of the music, its history and an appreciation for the target audience. Very impressive packaging. A+ for Sowmya. This is something that the other (very talented) performers did not do as effectively this year.

Special thanks to Kamakotisankara (whoever he/she is) for meticulously posting every concert on youtube with appropriate tags. And of course, none of this would reach the world without the efforts of Subashree, Manimaran and team. I hope Subrasree's persuasion prevails and the videos remain online forever. They are a global treasure.

Is it possible to release the full concerts as DVDs commercially.

Out of the 2.5 hr concert, hardly 40 minutes get telecast. It would be nice if the whole concert is aired ,may be in 30 minutes installments over a period of time

Probably 40 mins is what people want i think. Not the rasikas on this forum though (Ahem).

However i would request this, the program be telecast the next day morning with the remaining program continuing from last day evening.

Then i think that would become the correct format.

To argue whether telecasting the entire program is a commercial viability or not will draw us to different points of view. Considering the number of tamil channels and all of them hosting some event or other and off course viewership TRP ratings and timing of the program, all these factors have a role to play more than commercial viabilty because anything today can be made into a commercial product.
