Very nice concert, right from the beautifully etched sarisajanAbha, kAMbhOji aTa tAla varNa.

nAgasvarAvali svaras (vocal), tODi AlApanA (violin) and tani Avartana (though brief) were among the sections that stood out. I hope we get to listen to these artistes more often.

Having missed all previous rasika gatherings this season (save for a quick dinner/catch-up with Vijay), I was glad to meet Cool, Rajumds, Nick, Sri Nageswaran. Akella-ji, Bharadwaj and Uday.

Hearty thanks to the organizers for a great start to the Rasayana series and to 2010!

It was a very nice concert indeed.

It is a pity that there were not more people --- although the number attending would have probably been fine for a house concert. Still, we have kicked off on the very first day of the first month of this decade, and perhaps that's more important than having fixed a time and place outside working hours and the like.

Always a pleasure to meet the rasikas, and a big bonus to have not only VKV but also Akella among us.

Another bonus for me was getting to give Sandhya a lift to her house, which earned me a nice cup of tea and some nice conversation :)

It was a wonderful morning. We had some discussions on giving a new direction to our venture. Keerti , VKV, Kulkarni and Akkela spoke a few words.

The concert was sublime, and with her guru sitting in the front row, Sandhya gave a fine performance. Badri Govindarajan is definitely a star in making and I am sure we will hear more and more of him in future.

Our own Semmu was in fine form and played beautifully for the songs and played a short and sweet tani.

I think Sandhya Dharini is also a member of the forum and I am sure either one of them will post the song list.

Sad to have missed this - had to leave early on 31st morning....was there a jam session as well?

We did not finish the concert until about 1.00, and people melted away fairly quickly, so no jam session.

I think we have to do that as a separate occasion. Not wishing to impose on anyone, but it might be an idea if one of our musicians who take a central part in these sessions takes the lead. ...Of course, anyone else can too! Just an idea!

Keerthi - can you throw some light on #12? Was this not tuned by Sri T? If so, what was the rAga in the manuscript and why did Nedunuri Sri Krishnamurthi have to re-tune it?

I was browsing through the 2008 MMA journal at a bookstore, and saw an article about this(by Pappu.Venugopala rao). In 1950 or '52, some bhAgavatar from saurashtra sabha, madurai, presented these krti-s, and sang them after some fashion, in the academy. This song has been listed to be in gaurikalyAni.

We don't know how the bhAgavatar sang, but I remember Sandhyaji mention once (at the earlier rasikas meet at bangalore) that Nedanuri has tuned, notated and sung these; and that they have been released in a CD.

I didn't buy the journal, if you have access to a copy, you may find the full article interesting..

I wouldn't have typed in that raga name, if i hadn't chanced upon the article yesterday!

It sounded like sAranga-hamIr kalyani in most part, except the ending phrase which was always gmp-gmr-S (all shuddha M). This is a phrase from the northern KAmOd .

Nice to see a pallavi line in telugu , usually the lines are in thamizh or sanskrit. NAgaswaravali , a lovely rAga though his cousin bahuDari is lovelier. Was there no swara ragamALiga

Warm welcome badrinath. Incidentally in this forum we dont have much violinist participating , the only person i remember as a violinist participating is violinlover (rahul, disciple of MC) and vinay (who is now in US and who is also a disciple of kovai dakshinamurthy too).

Good to hear about the success of this event and concert!

I believe Suji Ram and Bilahari are violinists.
