It was an outstanding, almost blemishless and soothing concert by the great team of SGC/ RKSK/ UKS and BSP. Shri UKS announced and explained the tillana and the lakshmIsam talam to the audience...I had almost stepped out but came back in on hearing UKS speak and decided to stay back. I think I heard him say the tillana is by 'Calcutta Raghavachari' but not sure.

Mukhari main was top class, with excellent returns by RKSK for every phrase and swara round sung by SGC. UKS was seen constantly egging the other three on, even prompting RKSK to go for an additional round of swaram once! The tani was good and could have been longer.

Almost blemishless because I spotted just one minor issue with the pronunciation during the viruttam. Even this would have gone unnoticed if not for our recent discussions on the topic of the Tamil letter Ra especially the combination RR in the languages forum. What appeared a minor drishTi poTTu the size of a dime when he went 'peTTra tai tanai' and 'uTTra dEhattai' etc. grew to nickel-size when it was time for 'naTTravaTTravar' and became a quarter when he repeated naTTravaTTravar making me wince! Again, none of this would have mattered (maTTred? :) ) to me had this concert happened a week or two earlier.

Overall a very satisfying show by a fabulous team.

There are 3 versions of this krithi in madhuvanti, Ahirbhairav or darbAri kAnaDA?
Assuming SGC would have sung the madhuvanti one.

SGC rendered the kanada ata tala varnam neranammi. As far as Kapi Tillana is concerned Sri UKS mentioned that he learnt this when he was all of 12 years from his father's guru Calcutta Ragahavachariar . It is a composition of Poochi Srinvasa Iyengar set to Lakshmeesam Talam which has 25 beats. It was popularised on the concert scene by Sri. Semmengudi Srinivasa Iyer.

This article talks about this thalam:
"Suguna Purushottaman, armed with her extensive mastery over the thalas, spoke on the difficult thalas like Lakshmeesam (25 aksharas), Simmanandhana Thalam (128 aksharas), Sarabhandana Thalam (79 aksharas) and Chaturmukha thalam with 28 aksharas."
