Did anyone attend Sukanya Ramgopal's special concert at the music academy yesterday? It was just fabulous. What a scintillating performance !!!
Sukanya ji was accompanied by Yoga Vandan on the veena, Soumya Ramachandran on the violin, Ranjani Venkatesh on mridangam and bhagyalakshmi on morsing - all women ensemble.
Sukanya Ramgopal played the ghata tarang - with six ghatams. Her mastery over the instrument is simply awe-inspiring! A Kuntalavarali piece was rightly called 'Anandam'. Then they played a revati piece in Sankeerna Chapu. Following this was a fabulous RTP in Amruthavarshini in Adi tala. Sukanya ji's konnakol was again simply out of the world......so was the tani in all the nadais !!
People who didnt come really missed a treat. Of course, the audience present cheered and couldnt help but give a standing ovation !
its a concert that will remain in memory for a very long time.....

I did not attend the concert however a few words have to be mentioned about this great artiste and her laya nirnayam.
I first saw her performance as pakkavadyam for sudha at ramaseva i think. Then in TTD channel saw her women ensemble perform brilliantly.
At this juncture i would like to bring to light another great women mridangist whose name is jayamangala krishnamani. She is a vocalist as well and she does well in both areas and that itself is a great achievement.
The fact that they are women did'nt convince me about sukanyas talent but the intensity and laya brilliance that she demonstrated captivated me to her musicmanship or is it musicwomneship.
