The Inaugural concert was by Dr.Nithyasree Mahadevan. The Concert began with the tamizh varnam in Charukesi. She took up a composition in Shubhapanthuvarali on Narasimha as the next one.The Swarakalpana for Orajupu was decent and the sangathis she put at the anupallavi were worth mentioning. Poorvikalyani was dealt well and the neraval at "Paramathmudu jeevathmudu" was moving. The main krithi of the day was Naa Jeevadhara the swaras at the pallavi were really wonderful. The Thaniavarthanam was scintillating with so many instruments involved. The post main items were basically requested by many people so she sang them. The virutham and the shanmukha kandanum song was dealt in a real amazing manner.
Over all it was a satisfying concert.

Revanth It is my turn to get jealous that Dr Nityashree sang such nice song.Lovely list.
I wanted to listen to Dr Nithyashree and Balaji sir and was wondering if it will happen. But it has .Wish it wa s in Mumbai!!
I am hoping that Balaji sir accompanies Nithyashree when she is singing in September in Shanmukhananda.( Nithyashree's progaramme has been preponed to September from Feb 2010.

Why is it that honorary degrees attach themselves to some names and not to others? Many of the prominent performers have an honorary doctorate bestowed on them. Somehow, it is the SK tag that is sure to be taken into account by most of us. sangIta kalAndhi NityaSri has a nice lilt to it. After some years she could be called that...!

It is quite WRONG to add the prefix Dr. to/by people conferred honorary doctorates. Pandit Nehru and almost all U.S. presidents have been conferred several such honorary doctorates. Did/Do they use the prefix? All this was started by "Dr. Kalaignar" in late sixties when he was conferred the honorary doctorate by the Annamalai University and he INSISTED/ORDERED that all his chElas address him as Dr.KaruNAnidhi. Let us not, in this forum, make this mistake, be it Nithyasri or late Sermmangudi/ M.S et al. It is an insult to the likes of my late friend Dr. S. Ramanathan, who EARNED their doctorates.

"It is an insult to the likes of my late friend Dr. S. Ramanathan, who EARNED their doctorates" - Are we saying that only those who researched and submitted their thesis must be given Doctorate degree and use that honor as a prefix to their name? Street smarts and those who make a positve difference in any stream of life activities including music are candidates qualified enough to be doned with Dr degree by the Universities and it is upto such receipients whether to use Dr as a prefix to their name, IMHO.

The Link below is an article by N.Balaram of the IISC , Bengaluru. The last paragraph is very interesting in the context of the above discussion.

That was a very nice one.
Let MS be MS and Nithyasree be Nithyasree.
