There was a plethora of prizes given away as usual during the Sadas on Jan. 1st. However, for the last cpl of yrs MA has been bunching several endowments together (mainly avoiding duplication under same category) and reducing the number of awardees and thereby enhancing the prize amount that each winner gets. From what I can recall, the prominent winners were:

Senior:
1) Oustanding Senior Vocalist (three or four endowments): S. Sowmya
2) Yogam Narayanaswamy prize: Sanjay
3) Another bunch of endowments for oustanding performer: TM Krishna
4) Best concert team: Ranjani-Gayatri, BUG, Manoj Siva
5) Best pallavi: Malladi Bros
6) Violin: RKS
7) Mridangam: Patri Sathish

Sub-senior:
1) Oustanding: TNS Krishna
2) Nisha Rajagopal (not sure what category)
3) Concert: Amrita Murali & party
4) Violin: I think it was Charumathi Raghuraman
5) Mridangam: Tvm Balaji
6) Saketharaman also got a prize, dont remember what exactly

Junior:
DB Aswin

Don't remember the others, sorry...

For the brilliant violin accommpaniment that Dr M Narmadha provided for Manda Sudha, she would have been the default choice for violin under senior category. Having given that award many times to her, perhaps MA would have looked for alternate violonist

Charumati under Sub Sr violonist is a very apt choice . Her excellent accompaniment for Saketharaman with her absolute confidence was a delight to watch and hear

Glad to hear that TNS Krishna got the award for outstanding concert. I thoroughly enjoyed his concert and felt it was majestic - easily one of the best I went to out of ~20. Does he give many concerts during the year? Is he in general under-represented/under-reviewed? This was my first time listening to him-

I dont think he is under represented...he tends to be very selective in his performances, because he accompanies his father quite a bit by providing vocal support, plus I think he is pursuing his graduate education as well!

I thought he had finished MBA from IIM Lucknow sometime back. The Hindu has a raving review of the concert and it is a pity that my season was too short this time to take in one of his performances.

How do you all find out about these awards? I can not yet find any info about this at the Music Academy web site. ( which screams for a redesign by some competent hands )
