As the 2009 music season is in full swing, I thought it might be interesting to discuss excellent artists who we could have seen more of.
For me (I do not know any of them personally) this is a partial list:
1. Shriram Parthasarathy
2. Pantula Rama
3. Madurai GS Mani
4. Sreevalson Menon
Mods, if you prefer, this can be moved to general discussions

There are many talented vocalists in the US, Europe and Australia but they dont go to chennai to perform, they seem happy doing what they are. Sandeep is certainly a talent and will grow under Sanjay. Unfortunate that he isnt singing much this yr, he even had an academy slot last year....so did swarna rethas and tmk student g ravikiran.rajeshnat wrote:I would add sandeep narayanan - last year he had close to 8 or 10, this year very few. I will add more later

Hello all, this is my first post on the forum. Been following discussions here for sometime and find them very engrossing and informative. My Guru, Shri. S.Kasthurirangan is performing at Sri Ranjani Trust on Jan 1, 2010 at 5:30 PM at Swamy's Hall, RK Mutt Road, Mandaveli. Thought he too could be easily considered a very under-represented favorite!

S kasturirangan is one artist I am hunting for years , he sang a year or two back in a temple in purasalwakkam , some time before in academy- mini which I missed. His voice and style in the few recordings I heard ,has a lot of overlap of 80 and 90's- TN seshaAgOpAlanin .

I attended the concert of subha ganesan for the first time at sastri hall, she is very good,
she is one of the lady artist poorly represented in concert circuits, iam impressed by her weighty voice and lively concert format, She is a talented female vocalist.
Raji Gopalakrishnan is my another favourite she has a soothing voice, i wonder why she is not able to make a leading position in the concert circuit.

AnuR and Balaji Sir,
Taking your word, I attended a 1 hr 45 min concert by Sri. Kasturirangan at Madipakkam yesterday and came back very happy that I attended this truly excellent concert.
The pantuvarali and Dwijavanti ragam elaborations were so new and fresh that I wish I could have seen a full 3 hour concert of this vidwan.
Thanks for the pointer.

Yes, a few or barely any concerts of the above-mentioned. But then, we rasikAs are hard to please!
If they sing in too many venues, we blame that their voices are not at their best!
Kamalamba,
I made it a point to listen to the ones in your list. Loved listening to Pantula Rama, G.S.Mani and Srivalsan Menon. All gave
excellent concerts. Did not want to miss Raji Gopalakrishnan either, went to German Hall at 9-00 in the morning, but the concert was cancelled. A miss indeed.
Mridangam,
Is he the same Kasturirangan that Rajesh speaks about?

Vidushi Neela Ramgopal is a great musician.
Her Samodham in Shudha Dhanyasi she sang in Nadhasudha,Velachery last year still rings in my ears. The impact was such that in this season when a young and famous artist sang this kriti, couldn't enjoy since NR has set a bench mark that is very hard to touch or match.

My take on under represented favourites this season are:
1. Saketharaman - gave an excellent concert in the Music Academy accompanied by Charumathi Raghuraman and Trivandrum V Balaji. I didn't see this being reviewed in the general reviews or coverage of even The Hindu that duly covers almost all the MA concerts, despite the fact that all the three artistes in that concert were also awarded / endowed during the Sadas on the 1st Jan 2010.
2. Bharat Sundar - another upcoming vocalist with good talent but not covered well in the reviews etc.
3. Kasthurirangan - already discussed here by many

Dear apasruthi,
I think Saketraman is getting enough coverage. I saw review of his Brahma gana sabha concert in The Hindu, another one in Express, in our own Rasikas and some other forums too. I guess its difficult for the newspapers also to cover more than one concert of each artist.
Bharat Sundar's concert has also been reviewed in The Hindu.
I agree Kasturi Rangan has not been covered well, but so are artists like Bhushany Kalyaraman, Lakshmi Rangarajan, RajiGopalakrishnan, MS Sheela, and many others who perform brilliantly but have not covered due to unknown reasons.
