Today (19/01/2010) morning from 7 am to 8 am on FM Gold (102.3 MHz), I happened to listen to following songs by Mrs. Vijayalakshmi Subramanian. A real Gold music.
Maamava meenAkshi - VarALi - M.ChApu - Deekshidhar - Ragam, Niraval & swara at shAmE shankari. (seems to be her favourite)
-Good interpretation of rAg by both Vocalist & Violinst (I could not get the name of accompanists, as I was readying for daily routine office). Niraval at the usual place with some unheard, refreshing sanchArAs. At the end, it had korvai like :
Gaa, Ree, Saa, nee, dhA, (5 x 3 kArvais)
GA RI SA nI dhA (5 x 2 kArvais) ( these two put together 6 and quarter aksharAs)
Ga Ri Sa ni dhA Ri Sa ni dha pA ga ma pa dha ni (called 4 and quarter aksharAs in kanakku parlance)
- total 10 and half askahsharAs ( 3 aavarthanms of misra chApu).
Next was RAgam VaruNapriyA (24th Melakartha) & song shrungAra kumAra by KOTiswara Iyer. A very nice delination of rAg, clearly spelling out Shatusruthi Daivatam. As a pleasant surprise, Vidhushi did a niraval at 'AruNagirikku' and the violinst followed absolutely. Some round of swarAs too.
Lastly, GKB's SivakAma sundari in Jaganmohini at faster phase was sung. Eventually, because of paucity of time, charaNam could not be broadcast.
It is evident that Mrs. Vijayalakshmi do present at least one VivAdi ( analytic and not debatable) rAg in each of her performances.
An excellent presentation.

The first and only time I have heard this krithi in varunApriyA was by TRS, a lovely rAgA where the lakshya heads very close to KApi most of the time. I dont recollect so far any one singing in live concerts that i have listened to.beginner wrote:

The concert started with Jaya Jaya in Natai . The main ragam at the concert was a beautiful rendition of Mohanam and Nannu Palimpa
