It was really worth-listening the carnatic vocal recital of the veteran singer from Kerala Prof. Parassala B Ponnammal in Doordarsan National Program of Music (telecasted on 12 September 2009). It was such a mastery performance, though was of 30 minutes duration. She seems to be a real wonder singing like this at this old age. Heard lot about her and about her concerts in Chennai. Probably she would be the senior-most carnatic musician in India now. I would think that she needs to be considered in the level of MS, DKP, and MLV. In the DD concert, Smt. Bhama Krishnan provided vocal support. Avaneeswaram S R Vinu was on violin, Erickavu N Sunil was on Mridangam, and Trikkakkara Y N Santharam was on Ganchira. All accompaniments were very good. Special mention need to be made about Mridangam, which was too good.
Long life to you Prof. Ponnammal ! ! !

s_hari - You are correct. She could sing only 2 pieces since the duration was just 30 minutes. The items were:
1. Gajaananayugam - Chakravakom - Adi
2. Jnaanamo Sagaraada - Poorvikalyaani - Roopakam (there was a 3-4 minutes "thani avarthanam" for this)
Will there be a second part for this ? Or are you refering the repeat of this ?

I have seen this program ..... was really a mastery performance ...... i think she is singing in Sruthi D or D Sharp ....... not only like performance, she also looked like DKP while in stage .... would have been good if the concert was of one hour duration ..... have also specially noted the Mridamgam which was very nice ..... Is he too from Kerala ? Not seen in many stages ...... Violin artist, I have seen in some stages in Chennai ....

I could understand it was broadcast by Podhigai TV as National Programme on 12-09-2009 but would like to know at what time? So far as Podhigai TV is concerned we could catch it next time as very often they repeat. If anyone knows about the broadcast of the 2nd part, please mail to my personal id in advance.
Thanks,

Had the great fortune of meeting and speaking to the grand dame for a few minutes today. She was sitting in front of her house in Valiyasalai, serene and spent some time questioning my kid on whether he was learning music. She mentioned the Chembai award and subsequent concert to us. It was a brief yet unforgettable meeting. She mentioned that she was visiting Chennai for a MA concert soon and one more. She also mentioned singing at Hubli recently and was smiling when she recalled Smt Gangubai Hangal listening to the concert and appreciating.
