V.V.Ravi and B.U Ganesh Prasad played a violin duet for the Marungapuri Gopala Iyer Violin festival held at Raga Sudha on 18th January 2010.
The Concert list goes thus :
1) Varnam-Sahana-Adi
2) Sri Ganapathi nee-Sowrashtram-Adi
3) Gnanamosagarada-Poorvikalyani-Rupakam
4) Telisi Rama-Poornachandrika-Adi
5) Krupaya Palaya-Charukesi-Misra Chaapu
6) Palinchu Kamakshi-Madhyamavathi-Adi
7) Sri Ramachandra-Desh and Ragamalika-Misrachapu-Tulsidas Bhajan
8) Mangalam
3 ragas viz., Poorvikalyani, Charukesi and Madhyamavathi alternated between the duo was simply very nice to hear on stage. Both had perfect understanding and they were complimenting each other on many occasions when there was a lead palying by one artiste the other artiste immdiately played the supporting role. That was a very excellent sight to watch both senior and established artistes forget their individual personal preferences (i intentionally want to avoid the word EGO) and concentrate on the musical aspects, bhava, tonal perfection, melodic sound production etc. The outcome was sheer enjoyable music and kudos to V.V.Ravi sir for bringing a scintillating Madhyamavathi followed brilliant cascade finish by B.U.Ganeshprasad. Both of them had excellent control over their instruments and they were enjoying the music with utmost concentration.
I really enjoyed playing for them. The audience turnout was fairly good and they stayed throughout the concert as the concerts at Raga Sudha generally wind off by 8.15 or maximum 8.30. This concert ended at 8.15. A Special mention about the acoustics of Raga Sudha on that particular day. They kept a mild reverb on stage for the violins and it created a studio atmosphere for listening and it was a sheer aural treat on stage. When i went to R.K.Shriram's concert i didnt think it was provided.
