The performers :
Mrs.Gayathri Venkataraghavan - vocal
Ms.Padma shankar - Violin
Mr.Erode Nagarajan - Mrudangam
????? - Ghatam
Song List : ( May not be full, Since I left after the Main Krithi)
Invocatory Sloka on Godess Saraswathi - Yagundhedu..........
Sri Maha Ganapathi - Gowla - M.Chapu MD
Maa mavasada - Kanada - Rupakam - ST
Saraswathi Dayai puri- Saraswathi - Adi - ??? composer
Sri sharada - Khamas - Adi - Sri Sringeri Swamy ( this was preceeded by a shoka on the godess saraswathi composed by the swamy himself - This was announced by the artist)
Maa mavathu Sri saraswathi - Hindolam - Adi - Vasudevacharya
Devi Jagajjanani - Shankarabaranam - Adhi ( 2 Kalai) ST (1st Navarathri Krithi)
Enna thavam - Kapi - Adi -Sivan ( I guess this was a listner's request )
Absolutely scintillating concert right from the first krithi. Though I am not competent to coment , I felt that the Kanada krithi was a dragged a bit. Both the sloka and krithi in Khamas was rendered with complete devotion.
The main attraction was was shankarabaranam Navarathri krithi of ST complete with Alapana, Tanam ( with Mrudangam accompaniment, in keeping with the tradition at Navarathri Mandapam in Trivandrum), neveral at " Veena phstaka............" and kalpana swarams, followed by Tani avarthanam. Tani was excellent, but a bit too long, special mention to be made about the gharam artist, who's Sarwalughu patterns and korvais were very good and with clarity.
Considering that this was a Navarathri concert and Smt. Gayathri performing....... I expected a Syama Sastri krithi in the list, but could not find a place in today's concert.
On the whole a really satisfying concert which would be in our memory for many days and months to come....

Ambience and audience of the temple are so nice.(despite difficulty in locating till I got the clue from the stationed chat walla on the wheel-brahmin -in front of Ayodya mandapam - after I consumed a couple of garam Bondas-8th right from ayodya mandapam- I vouch for the taste ,quality sans side effects!)The artists are just seated on the stage in front of the Vahana alankaram for the day. The kamas number (notated by SKA.Subramaiam-Dis.Of SSI)was just a class.
Shankarabaranam Antharagandharam one had to just recollect MS amma when you heard GV elaborating on that evening.Padma Shankar was both cheerful, supportive and chaste in her approach. Was there a neraval in the kriti Mamavathu sri ? Start time 7.30 is ideal although guys like me from Adyar area have to leave early!I can not forget one helpertype of person barebodied came out from an enclosure to the right of stage behind recording system to clap for her Sankarabaranam Alapana-GV's music is worth enjoying&appealing to both Pamara &Panditha alike.

Regarding Devi Jagajjanani in Shankarabharanam, I have a question. Apologies if in the wrong subsection.
The beautiful Sanskrit lyric of Maharaja Swati Tirunal in the Pallavi goes Devi Jagajjanani DEhi KrupayA mama tAvaka carana Bhaktim.
However, neither in MSS's recordings nor in any other artiste I have heard is the tAvaka pronounced as it should be. Perhaps it is a consequence of the tala? Any opinions from the learned rasikas?
