Sriram Parthasarathy presented a pleasing energetic concert for Mylapore Fine Arts for their Thyagaraja Aradhana series.

Accompanists:

V. L. Kumar
Neyveli Narayanan
K. V. Goplakrishnan (K)

Song list:

1. Vallabha nayakasya, Begada, Rupakam, MD
2. Sabhapathikku, Abhogi, Rupakam, GKB
3. Maakelara Vicharamu, Ravichandrika, Adi, T [S]
4. Hemavathy, Sri kantimathim, Adi, MD [RNST]
5. RTP, Mohanam, Adi, "Karpagame kadai kann paarai mayilaiyin naayakiye"
6. Ram japan kyon chod diya, Hamsanandi
7. Tillana, Behag
8. Rama mantrava japiso, Sindhubhairavi
9. Pavamana

Observations

1. Concert was presented very briskly and there no was no let down in momentum through the entire 2 hour concert.

2. Some interesting but unconventional swara bedham was done in Hemavathy with bowli swarams sung in place and interspersed with hemavathy swaras.

3. Sriram's enunciation of the words was exemplary. He passed the "Shukha Shounakha" test with flying colors :)

4. Only the nice Thyagaraja portrait on stage was an indication that this was part of an aradhana series. The song list did not hold that much of a clue.

Sriram pArtha sArathy - right from his looks till his bAni - has changed ( over the last 10 years) quite a lot these days. IMO, he is more using HM in his CM presentation. I believe, he is a disciple of NSG, experimenting every day and not succeeding in his endeavours.

There could have been more Rs and Ns for a 2-hour concert. The main piece could have been a Thyagaraja one, it being part of an aradhana serires.

It was only upon reading observation #2 that I felt sure this man is a singer!

More observations:

5. Sriram has a good grip on laya and uses it to maintain the momentum of the concert nicely.

5. Neyveli Narayanan was excellent is his accompaniment. The thani with K.V.Goplakrishnan was also played very nicely with good encoragement from the main artiste.

A pity i could'nt attend but thanks for the review and for the simplicity of the review. Next time when i catch his concert will keep this review in mind. However musicians performance is a happening and on a particular day does hit it right at the top.
