Venue:Sastry Hall

Accompaniments:Nagai Sriram & Patri Satishkumar

After spending a chilled week in the capital, when I touched Chennai at the mid night on Friday ,thanks to a fog delayed flight ,I felt the urgent need for 2 things- a good kutcheri and namma oor sappadu.

I was delighted to attend Shri.TVS’s concert in this context.

TVS is one singer whom I love very much. When U love someone U try to exercise ur rights w/o understanding their plight.I blame myself for my selfishness. So with a open mind I went to the concert and what a wonderful fair it was.

List:

1.Sundara Vinayaka,Viruttam followed by
Karunai seivai - Hamsadhwani -S
2.Tulasidalamula - Mayamalavagowlai -(N@sarasiruha,S)
3.Ramabhirama - Darbar -R
4.Paramapavana - Poorvikalyani -(R,N@kanakambara,S)
5.Ramanukku - Hindolam - (R,N@pattamkatta)
6.Maragathavalli - Kambhoji -(R,S,T)
7.Prabhandham in Ragamalika -Kapi,Hamsanandhi,Madhyamavati
8.Venkatesanannu - Madhyamavati
9.Pavamana

TVS’s voice was in good form and full of melody. He displayed excellent manodharmam in all the 4 ragam essays beautifully.Especially his Hindolam .It was a beautiful blend of erudism and janaranjagam that would have challenged any Ustad.

In the post thani viruttam TVS brought the beauties of the ragams like a rainbow.

Nagai Sriram was good except in Hindolam where he could not match the veteran. Not his mistake.Only MSG or VVS would have justified that.

Patri was good throughout and his tani was electrifying.

A great concert that is beyond any grading.

Thanks Ganeshkanth.
Haven't heard TVS sing venkatESa ninnu sEvimpa. Only KVN. It is a super song.

Semmu,
Even for me, with my kindergarten level of laya, Patri's playing is very appealing. No wonder you and Ram loved it.

Patri is indeed electrifying....who are the vocalists he regularly accompanies other than Bombay Jayashri?
