It was a very patchy concert. There were moments of brilliance and stretches that were terribly uninteresting. Can you imagine Sanjay Subramaniam singing in apa shruti or apa swaram? Well, both happened during the piece in Natta. The swara vistaram was poor especially. Was very off putting right at the beginning of the concert. Narayani and Kannada were fine, but the swarams felt very 'gimmicky' many times. It was not until the Saveri piece that Sanjay finally got in form. Enjoyed it. Khamas was excellent. Great Ragam and Tanam. That's the kind of music I expect from Sanjay. The Pallavi was fine, but again, gimmicks seemed to occur every now and then. Let me point out that this might be just a personal thing, because some people seemed to enjoy those gimmicks with 'aah's and 'voh ho's! I just didn't see it. Interestingly, the RTP ended with a krithi in Behag. The rest of the concert was pleasant enough. Thani was good. Hoping to catch Sanjay some time soon again when he is in proper form. This kutcheri kind of left me with a bittersweet aftertaste.

Morsing - B. Rajashekar

Whose composition is the one he rendered in Kannada, i noted it down as Kaalayami dhridinantha kamaneeya baalam. There was a mention of Padmanabha in the middle, is it a Swathi Thirunal composition?

The Behag lyrics were Sri Madhava vasudeva devadhi deva keshava

He sang a composition that sounded like a viruttham (thiruvottriyur mention in the lyrics somewhere) to me before the Vaa Vaa Vel Muruga rendering.

The mindset of the artist before the concert can play an important role in setting the mood of the concert. But after a few slips he pulled the concert to great heights with an awesome Saveri Raga rendition. Thats the greatness of artists like Sanjay, they dont let the mood effect the concert. Personally I loved the Saveri rendition. There on the concert caught good momentum and a lot of the credit goes to Sri Nagai Muralidharan and Sri Easwaran . Thani was excellent with some on-spot calculations by Sri Easwaran. Sri Rajashekar played his part well. Khamas was a blinder. Nice choice of ragas for Ragamalike!!

A big hand for the crowd. A good 70-80% of the audience stayed till the end of the concert.

It was Kalayami hridinanda of Maharaja Swathi Thirunal. The Virutham Started with something like "Karuvutra naal(?) in Dhanyasi then Poothavalae..in Begada and Vizhikku Thunai in Sindhubhairavi and concluded with the Kriti, Va Va Vel Muruga (don't know whose Composition) in Sindhubhairavi.
