Sharadha Cultural Trust-Annual Music festival-Hyderabad

Sharadha Cultural Trust, the all-women organization of Hyderabad organized its annual cultural festival recently. It seriously feels proud to have this kind of an organization in here in Hyderabad which does relentless service to the Carnatic music, keeping it going in Hyderabad. Kudos to the organizers.

I attended the concerts of Sudha Ragunathan,Sanjay Subhramanyam and Nithyasree Mahadevan. I'd just like to give a report about this.Could not give the report earlier as I was occupied with my academics.

On Feb1st, The concert was by Sudha Ragunathan with Sri M.R Gopinath on Violin,Sri Patri Satish Kumar on Mridangam and Sri Raman on the Mohrsing.

She commenced the concert with Ranjani varnam of GNB. She mentioned about this being his Centenary year,she will be including his compositions in her concerts. The swarakalpana for Sri Vignarajam bhaje was decent. There was severe trouble with the sound system making the concert not really worth enjoying I should say. Additionally Sudha had a problem with her voice too. The swarakalpana for Janani Ninnuvina was really amazing I should say. That was something I loved about the concert. While the Kalyani was at the peak, there was a power cut for 15 mins and Sudha had to recreate all the energy and the mood of the concert when the power was back. The sound system did not cooperate at all that day. But still Sudha made sincere efforts to satisfy the rasikas and I should say she did not fail in satisfying. The post concert items were all upon request and even Sri Viswanatham was sung on the request of audience

On the next day, the concert was by Sanjay Subhramanyam and I should say that this was the best concert in this festival. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I was late for the concert so missed the beginning. I got the report of the first two songs from my friends

I entered the concert hall when Sriranjani was on and it was a real treat. The swarakalpana in Shankarabharanam for the rare tamil song was fantastic. The patterns he used was very interesting and were sung at a total neck-break speed. Saveri was a high light. The nereval was done at the pallavi and the swarakalpana was amazing. I never heard Saveri as the main piece in the recent concerts in Hyderabad and that added to my enjoyment. The chittaswarams he sang for Ravichandrika were completely enjoyable. The RTP was grand and the swarakalpana in Khamas and Hamsanandhi were mind blowing.

On Feb 4th of this month, They organized a vocal concert by Nithyasree Mahadevan. It was a splendid concert. Sri M.A.Krishnaswamy was on the violin,Sri Mannarkoil Balaji was on the Mridangam and Sri Shyam Kumar on the Kanjira.

It was a splendid concert I should say. The swarakalpana in Sudhdhaseemanthini was out standing. The Neraval for Varali at the lines "Sagara Sayanuni" was really good. I was hoping for an RTP after this. But there was no RTP but there was a grand Bhairavi followed by the all time master piece, Koluvaiyunnade Kodandapani. She sang the song in a wonderful manner and the swarakalpana was at the lines "Manasu Ranjilla" The thukkada section had Ragathil Shirandha ragamedhu as in many of her concerts, there was an additional charanam this time which had the lines in Kharaharapriya,Kamavardhini,Bahudari,sudhhdasaveri,Hindolam,Devamanohari,Devagandhari,Kaanada,Vasantha,Malayamarutham and Mohanam.
It was thoroughly enjoyable.
