Nageswaran sir, it doesnt work. People can just lie.
GBL sir, your ID needed activation (you would have received an email sometime back for activation). Anyways I have activated it now manually so you can login.
Arasi, what I hear from the guy who is working on it is, we may need to reset our passwords once the users are all migrated tomorrow since the passwords are not possible to be converted.
Divya, although the approvals have been disabled, if you got into the loop before it was disabled, then for the first 5 posts of yours, you will continue to have approvals enabled for your ID alone. After 5 posts, it will be fine. Unless the post is completely irrelevant or obnoxious, it will definitely be published, and you will be notified if it is not. I will check about the singapore festival thread.
Everyone, I appreciate your patience during this transition.

Thanks for reporting, you should not have a problem now. I will manually change the status of other users who are stuck in the approval cycle.
By the way, all users with atleast a single post have been migrated. Those who dont have even a single post can re-register.
The users who did not register before the migration may need to reset their passwords. Alternatively email me at admin(@)rasikas(dot)org with username so I can manually generate a password

I am a little confused; in the 'Old Forum' if I want to read the latest post on any topic, I have to click on the the 'Last Post'. But in the 'NewForum' I have to click on the 'Topic'; and have to scroll down to read the latest post; once the number of posts in a topic increases, it will be difficult to view the latest /last post.

Punarvasu, there may be more direct ways turned on over time, but for now, one thing you can use is to jump to the last page. For an example, in the General Discussions Forum, under the Welcome topic, look to the right. Before the "Replies" column you will see page numbers. You can jump to any page from there.
But I agree: It would be good to know clearly if a particular forum has any new posts, then after one goes into the forums which topics have new posts and then for each topic, go directly to the beginning of the new posts. I think it shows some aspects of this with the color and/or animation of the icon to the left of each item in the "forum list" and "topic list".
Also, it would be good to have the equivalents of "New Posts" and "Active Topics" and "Unanswered Topics" etc. that are available in this forum at the top right.
We will learn about them all together.

Even for me in the new forum the approval cycle is still coming up.Can you also approve rajeshnat ,rshankar etc... I have a feeling all those who have registered in the new site prior to you migrating of old to new forum have this problem. Advance thanks if you take care of approval.

A post I made was subject to approval too.
An invaluable function to use in association with View New Posts is Mark Forum Read. That is there on the main page, but can we have it on the New-posts-listing page too, please?

Yes, I have made a couple of posts, but I'm just getting the approval message.

Chembai - it is getting very annoying - my posts still need 'approval'. One (legitimate) reason I can think of is that the new forum does not seem to have registered any of my posts (it reads '0' by my posts), while for Nandagopal it reads 612...srkris wrote:Thanks for reporting, you should not have a problem now. This seems to be happening even for those who started at the new forum after the migration. I joined on receiving a note from the admin, but my post is also not appearing there as yet.rajeshnat wrote:I have a feeling all those who have registered in the new site prior to you migrating of old to new forum have this problem.
Hopefully these are temporary glitches / teething problems.

One still has to toggle back and forth between the old and new forums - old forum does not allow new posts, so make them in the new forum.
New forum does not carry the old forum posts so to "reply" to any of the old posts, jump back to the old forum. Is that enough of an old-new jumble or what?
The migration of the old forum (with all its posts) into the new would have made better sense PRIOR to asking members to re-register, make any new posts etc. Rajeshnat has some very valid points in locking everything, except the migration thread, in the new forum TILL all old threads/posts are FULLY REDEEMED. My one paise opinion.

Rshankar, GBL, Nick et al,
Kindly wait until the migration is fully over. I do not want to take too many risks in changing settings on a trial and error basis until the migration is completed successfully. It is 60-75% over. Again I apologise for these agonizing days for all of us.
If I can find the exact reason why the approvals are not off yet, I will do the needful even before the migration is over.
Also, rshankar, the number of posts shows incorrectly since the migration is not fully completed. Once it is done, I will resynchronize the statistics and it will be fine. It is not funny, as I'm having to approve my own posts too.

Now that we have migrated, how about some *real* value add - like being able to chat with another logged in forumite? 8)

Re: The new forum
I am getting some unusual fonts in the posts which I am unable to understand. For example,
“Dear brother-member, vasanthakokilam, If you follow the sub-thread ‘Easy Muktayis - their utilisation in svarakalpana’ under the main thread ‘Tala/Laya’ you can produce hundreds of fashionable kalpana-svarams. But, even before entering into them one must stabilise his rhythmical abilities properly. Amsharma”
What are they due to ? Do I need to change some settings in my computer ?

Shivadasan,
Its because there are some issues converting texts from unicode. It's got nothing to do with your PC.

Sir Namasthe. The new forum looks very good. One suggestion : even though the scrolling circle on the left corner indicates that in that particular thread there are new posts it would be better to stick to the earlier method of making the thread look bold if there are new posts.
Thank you

Wow... This thing works now. I can read from my desktop or laptop and not have to wade thru' duplicate posts. Not bad Sir Kris!sureshvv wrote:Will the new forum make reading from multiple machines any easier? Does this theme look better than the earlier one?
1. Font size is bigger
2. The users are on the left side of the message, as Nick suggested
3. Topics with new posts are easier to identify.
4. The contrast between text and background is more than before (easier to read).
One disadvantage is it doesnt look as elegant as the earlier theme.

I actually like this better. Also noticed the 'print view' for the first time - a very nice feature to search LONG threads using ctrl+F for a word or phrase!

I like the actual thread view but the list of messages is not looking too good. In particular I am referring to the fonts on http://www.rasikas.org/forums/search.php ... ive_topics

Yes, I like this theme better. The colour contrast, in particular, makes it easier to read. Who cares about elegance?!

My join date shows as 03.02.2010. Is it because I had registered on the new forum afresh before users were migrated ?

Srkris,
Thank you for all your efforts. This version is so much easier on the eyes. The one thing I liked in the previous forum was the "Quick reply" feature whereby you did not have to leave the thread to leave a reply.

Never mind, I found it next to "Post Reply" at the bottom. The image link for "Quick Reply" is broken, looks like.

Re: The new forum
Rajeeram, the "quick reply" is at the bottom left of the thread next to "post reply", and it is working fine. Perhaps if you reload the page by pressing the F5 key, it will refresh the images and you will be able to see it.

the previous template put a few days back, just before the present one, was better with a classic look.
though this is also fine as long as it is readable, just an opinion.

I will look into the issue of enabling feeds.
The earlier issue reported by Rajeshnat where he was not able to stay logged in from office should not recur now. I will wait for his confirmation.
