MyCarnatic (New Thread)

Post by raghukumar »

Dear All,

I am starting a new thread here (and have asked the mods to delete the old one) since some of the vb code I used earlier is not displaying properly on the new forum.

To those who are not familiar with MyCarnatic: the website is http://www.mycarnatic.org, and its purpose is to help propagate and promote Carnatic Music.

Right now, there are two basic sections on the website:
1) Blogs- various contributors, including Madurai Sundar, Chitraveena Ravikiran, Shashikiran and V. Sriram maintain their own blogs and write articles/blogs on various Carnatic Music topics
2) Resources- comprehensive listings of teachers, performing artists, organizations and concert schedules with detailed contact information. This was previously limited to North America but has now been expanded to worldwide. The interface is 100% transparent, with users having the ability to upload any listings directly on the website.

If you want to maintain your own blog on MyCarnatic, please contact me at [email protected] Anybody is welcome to maintain their own blog, as long as they are passionate about being active. In return for regularly maintaining your blog on the website (where you have the liberty to write on any aspects of Carnatic Music: e.g. concerts you're recently performed/attended/listened to, a technical article on the music, or just an observation you made that day, etc.), you will have your own profile and all your blogs will be searchable through all major search engines.

If you are affiliated with a Carnatic Music organization in any way or form and would not mind spending a little time and helping me propagate the Teacher/Performing Artist/Concert Schedule/Organization listings, please contact me at [email protected] I have taken the time to individually contact each organization with a spreadsheet template and requesting them to fill it out and send it back, but have heard back from very few of them.

Our next project is to create some sort of a music-listening feature where users can actually listen to Carnatic Music on the website. The idea is more to help propagate the music, where a complete newbie comes away with actually learning something about the music and helping him/her appreciate the music. Perhaps some sort of basic tutorial of sorts. Any ideas here would be welcome :-)

Thanks,
Raghu
