Kumari AISHWARYA at Indian Heritage Academy Hall,BANGALORE

Post by gobilalitha »

On19/2, kumari AISHWARYA,grand daughter of Smt,Radha Viswanathan(daughter of the legend MS AMMA) gave a scintillating performance, accompanied by smt,.Anuthama Murali on the violin and Sri Phanider Bhaskar on the mridangam under the auspices of NADASUDHA CULTURAL ASSN, spondored by Lalgudi Trust, in its youth festival .
The song list
1. vatapi ganapatim ,hamsadhvani
2.Deva deva, mayamalavagowlai
3. Bhajana seya , Dharmavati
Giri priyam , kadanakudoohalam
5. Nidhi sala, kalyani
6 jagadhodarana, kapi
7 kurai onrum illai raagamalika.
Since the time allotted was short, she did elaborate alapana, neraval, swaras only for rhe mmgand kalyani kritis with her high pitched voice. They were adequate and pleasing . The fast paced kriti of HMB giripriyam was well executed. Kumari ANUTHAMA AND Phaninder exhibited their talents admirably. A word of praise for the organisers. IT was a pleasant surprise to meet Arasi in the performance. The hall was full despite being a working day, GOBILALITHA .

Congratulations to Aishwarya! May she go from strength to strength.

I am sure her parents and grandparents are very proud and feeling what bhArati said so eloquently 'mecci unai UrAr pugazhndAl mEni silirkkudaDi'... :)

GBL - in the intro to Aishwarya, you left out that she is 'our' cienu's daughter!!

Bravo! Aishu is coming of age and sure will establish the reputation of her Great (indeed!) grand mother one of these days. She must also be getting ready for debut at NA along with her grand mother. Both you and Arasi legitimately represented us all. Our blessings to the budding artiste... as I whole heartedly support Shankar's lively quote...

Thank you GBL for a very good review. I was happy to meet you and Lalitha at the concert.
I had just returned from a long trip and was tired but came to the concert and asked Aishwarya to excuse me if I nodded off during the concert.
I didn't. She gave a lively concert and kept me awake. She told me that she had to drop some of what she had planned to sing due to lack of time.
I can see that she is singing better than when I last I heard her. A good selection of songs, some reminding us of her great grandmother's repertoire. As GBL says, she has a powerful voice and range. She is a hard worker too. She is going to make a mark with these assets and with the polish she would gain in the coming years.
Great to see that MS's music is being kept alive by her daughter who is passing on the baton to her grand daughter. It seems as though Aishwarya and Soundarya too, though very young--are getting ready to continue the tradition.
Cienu, I am proud too :)

A related remark: I went again to Nada Surabhi's youth festival this evening to see students of Sumitra Nitin (my teammate) perform there. She did the naTTuvAngam and sang too, with her mother Sujatha Vijayaraghavan. It was a tribute to Vazhuvur Ramaiah Pillai and his choreography. Ravi, how I wished you were there to explain it all! The young students did Sumitra proud by giving a lovely performance. I have seen Sunanda Narayanan (Sumitra's sister) grooming her students with dedication in Boston. This is the first time I saw Sumitra's students dance. It seemed as though Vazhuvur school danced today. Sumitra reminded me of her guru Rhada as she mouthed the jatis expertly along with her sweet singing. The youngsters had a rapt audience. I overheard a conversation where someone exclaimed: never seen such choreography in Bangalore before!
Way to go, Sumitra's students!
I get a lump in my throat when the young ones sparkle on stage. They are treasures (Aishwaryas), indeed.

H.K Venkatram in his short speech encouraged youngsters to learn music along with their studies until they graduated and reached a point when they could decide whether to pursue a career or to become full time performers. He spoke of his own experience of training as an engineer and of Sanjay Subrahmanyan who was a qualified charted accountant before he opted to be a full time performer.

In a country like India which has a huge population, deserving students not able to get admissions in Engineering and Medical Colleges, A super tough Chartered Accountancy Course where the pass rate is not more than 2% or 3%, dont you think a person who after completing these courses gives up and takes music as a full time CAREER is depriving a deserving student in getting admissions doing the course / passing the exam.
Though I agree it is the individuals call, he / she should be clear in what career path to take and accordingly select the course.

Dear Musicfan
your topic is irrelevant in this thread. Do raise the issue in the lounge for a healthy debate to continue there...

A big thanks to our Ceinu sir, for giving us the next 'Radha Vishwanathan' in the field of Carnatic Music. Without your selfless love for music, i don't think it would have been possible for Aishwarya to b what she is today.

Aishwarya to us reminds us of her grandmother during d old days with d same vocal range, sharp memory, kanakku and not to forget d patanthara shuddham. She is all set to compensate the concerts which mami cudn't perform in her musical career.
I pray God to gv her all desired oportunities in life and cast a never fading shine on d little star.

well said! But we avaricious Rasikas are looking for even bigger and better - her great grand mother!
Aishu has the charm and poise of MS already!

I can't resist joining in the banter - music fan 4201 - I'm a CA and hence can state this affirmatively - there's *no* concept of paucity of seats for the CA course - it's really just a test of endurance and skill and application - and - really no one can realy deprive another of a seat - as far as CA is concerned; wrt Engg - and present company :) - HKV is also a Corporate Honcho (though he consciously keeps both worlds apart) and one finds it really praiseworthy of someone being able to handle both realms with such panache and commitment.
And: like the erudite have said - "no" education can "ever" be a waste - one helps another; it has been scientifically proved that music (serioius) training aids one's intellect and superior absorption skills.

This is just in good humour

sHAkss,
Ah, you are studying to be a CA! If you are studying music seriously at the same time and one day want to become a performer, as Sappri says, you may not be depriving a CA student of the chance by your switching careers.

CML,
Remember Tangavelu's expression 'unnait tUkki veiyililE pODa!' in an old tamizh film?
The new expression can be: unnait tUkki lounge-le pODa!--meaning, take this discussion away to the lounge where light-hearted banter AND serious discussions take place alongside!
As for Aishwarya and other youngsters, let them shine in whichever career they choose in their lives.

Many thanks cienu for the clip. Aishu is progressing well. Her control of shruti is quite good. She may have to work a bit more on manodharma which will come automatically. Her voice is still undergoing transition and has to settle down. The future is bright.
