pallavi
shambhu krpai varumO enakku nallinbam pera sukhArambam tara shiva (Sambhu kRpai...)

Will the grace/mercy/compassion (kRpai) of the auspicious/propitious (Siva) granter of happiness (SaMbhU) that will grant (tara) me a happy (sukha) beginning (Arambham) be there/come (varumO) for me (enakku), so that I can obtain/enjoy (pera) divine bliss (nallinbam)?

anupallavi
anbarai ALum param poruL en nambudal kai kUDat-tunba vinaiyODa (Sambhu kRpai...)

(Will the grace of the auspicious granter of happiness), the supreme (param) being/essence (poruL) [1] who admits into his grace (ALum) his devotees (anbarai) (be there for me) so that my (en) belief (nambudal) in Him flourishes/prospers (kaikUDa) and grief (tunba) and consequences of my past deeds (vinai) disappear (ODa) [2]?

caraNam 1
munbuLavinaiyO viDambar sheivinaiyO en anbaik-kalaikka vegu tunba uruvAi vandu
dambak-kUttADiyE uDambaik-karaikkum kAma vempashi tIrttu manak-kambam aghaTriyALa (Sambhu kRpai...)

I am not sure if it is because of the consequences of deeds (vinaiyO) committed in the past (munbu) that I carry around (uLa), or if it because of the consequences of the deeds (vinaiyO) committed (Sei) by hypocrites (viDambar) [3], but what ever it is, it seems to have taken (vandu) an excessively (vegu) distressing (tunba) form (uruvAi) of this destructively hungry (vempaSi) desire/lust (kAma) that drains (karaikkum) [4] my body/strength (uDambai) while it performs (ADiyE) a meaningless (Damba) [5] dance (kUttu), in order to destroy (kalaikka) my (en) devotion (anbai). (Will the grace of Siva be mine) to put an end (tIrttu) to this, remove (agaTRi) any mental (mana) confusion (kambam), and admit me to his grace (ALa)?

caraNam 2

AdaravAgak-kuLir vAtam uNNUm [6] pannaga nAthanal-visham uNDa bOdhan shrI nIlakaNTha (Sambhu kRpai...)

Even as feelings of anger (kOpa), contentious arguments (vAta), greed (lobhamum), anguish (tApa), delusion (mOha), agitation (kshObhamum), sin (pApa), divisions (bhEdam) on the basis of caste (mada) tremulously (vEpam) approach (aNuga) and take root as thoughts (bhAvanamAi) in my mind (mandadil), I (nAn) , an ignorant (Edum ariyA), destitute/poor (Ezhai) simpleton (pEdai), have always (eppOdum) considered his (avar) divine (tiru) feet (pAdamE) as (yenru) my only succor (gati) and have become (AnEn) his slave/devotee (aDimai) so that he would not only grant (tandu) me the illumination (dIpamum) of wisdom (jnAna) to dispel the darkness of my ignorance, but would also admit me to his grace (ALa) by removing (agaTRi) all danger (Abhat) to me, and help me cross/get out of (ETRi) this well (kUpa) of illusion (mAyA) that I am wallowing in. (Will the grace of Siva), the Lord (nAtha) adorned by snakes (pannaga), the preceptor (bOdhan) who consumed (uNDa) the deadly/pure/concentrated (nal) poison (viSam), halAhalam, thereby becoming the blue (nIla)-throated (kanThan) one, (be mine, so that I can enjoy divine bliss)?

FOOTNOTES
[1] 'param poruL' and 'param poruLALan' probably mean the same...but paramporuLALum as given makes no sense to me
[2] 'ODa' literally means to run away
[3] viDumbar as given makes no sense - not sure if it even is a word
[4] 'karaikkum' - dissolving
[5] Damba - translated contextually
[6] 'AdaravAgak-kuLir vAtam uNNUm pannaga nAthan' makes no sense to me - as it stands, I think it means 'The lord (nAthan) adorned with snakes (pannaga) who consumes/eats (uNNum) cold (kuLir) air (vAtam) to be supportive (AdaravAga)' - Not sure what this means - I think one of the words is wrong, and when corrected the whole thing will make blindingly obvious sense, but as of now, I am perplexed
