Mysore Manjunath & Nagaraj @ Auckland on 21/2/10 (NZCMS)

Post by MV »

The violin duo performed a lively concert accompanied by Shri Arjun Kumar and Sri Sridhar Chari (Melbourne)

Song list:
1) Hamsadvani Varnam-Jalajakshi
2) Theratheeyaka Radha - Gaulibandu
3) Maakelara - Ravichandrika
4) Gnanamu Sakaradha - Poorvikalyani (R,N, KS)
5) Hiranmayim - Lalitha (R)
6) RTP - Kamboji
Ragamalika Swarams in Hindolam, Madhuvanti,Rasikapriya and Sivaranjani
7) Enna Thavam - Kapi
8) Krishna Nee Begane
9) Bhajan in Ragam Haricharan
10) Dhanasri Thillana (Swati Tirunal)

Leisurely expansion of both Poorvikalyani and Kamboji. The KS were brisk and calculated with both percussionists picking up the rhythm very well. Yet, the beauty in the concert rested in the briefest of sketch of Lalitha and Hiranmayim plus the Bhajan in Haricharan. :tmi:

No Sathej....we had a double mridangam, both from the stables of Sri Umayalpuram Sivaraman Sir. A beautiful concert and incidentally, I was thinking of you all the time. For it was held in the same hall where you gave your hand in assistance in organising the previous one. Only difference is that we have upgraded our equipments and the acoustics were much better. I am in touch with Sri Nagaraj for his permission to upload and will do so once I receive it.

Cheers

Oh ok - thanks for the info ! Yes, I do remember the hall and it was a pleasure to help ! The personal efforts of the organizers in everything - right from wiring up things to taking care of artistes is laudable.

Yes, the list looks nice, would be interested in Lalitha and the RTP.

I would love to listen to the RTP in this concert... I too love their music, but recently I have found it excessively speedy. Their brilliance is in the integration of the LGJ-Parur techniques and also (especially in their older concerts) the bhavam.

Do concerts happen anywhere other than auckland like wellingdon ,christchurch. I am assuming you generally invite artists to NZ as long as the artists have a concert scheduled with your big brother australia. Is that right?

Yes, Rajesh...We normally "piggy back" on Aus...this time it was organised by Sri Sridhar Chari for his group "In concert". There was also a concert in Wgtn. Basically, we try and support Wgtn on all major concerts as there is a sizable number of rasikas there as well. Christchurch is not in our radar at this stage, but we do not know what the future holds. We are planning to hold two concerts in June as part of our Sangeethotsavam in conjunction with Sri Jayendran of Sydney. Any rasikas planning to be in this part of the world at that time of the year, please get in touch with me.

Yes, the concert was quite speedy but entertaining. At NZCMS we try and organise 3-4 professional concerts in a year capturing the travelling artistes from Australia ofcourse. As Sam said, we end up having 2 concerts in NZ-Akl and Wton. You can google NZCMS to see our webpage and I believe there might be a list of artistes who have performed for us. I also think, save a few we have had some great concerts in this decade from most of the current leading musicians. Sangeet Utsav 2009, we had the Carnatica Brothers on Sat and MS Sheela on Sun and organised local artiste and student concerts for the morning-hence the Utsav

Vanamali,

Knowing that there is a recording of the concert, I would be exactly like you... when can I get it!!!
Our contract with the artistes do not permit recordings to be released. We will need to negotiate with the violinists re releasing concers. Now that we have 2 major concerts in June, we will be discussing the issue of concert recordings in detail so the artistes rights are protected and the integrity of our organisation is maintained. Please bear with me to get back to you on the violin concert.
