I have heard just only once about 8 or 9 years back DVMK when I was in delhi in one pillaiyAr temple at mayur vihar when I heard just one song there. I have not had much luck to hear him at chennai, atlast got a chance to hear him first in adayar for the first time ,the theme was rAmanAvami.
DVMK is sishya of TNS and he has learnt also from TRS , he is a member in our forum posting very rarely. I do know him personally courtesy coolkarni and few meetings that we had (where is all that now cool ??)
One can describe DVMK's music having quite a lot of overlap with TNS , his voice at times is not very powerful but however his music is quite classical atleast there is no dilution . When I entered he started with shriranjani , the turns of shriranjani was not very sharp and assertive nevertheless well done. The sub main was a typical copybook poorvikalyANi , nice alApana with a nice diction, the neraval was in a new line paripoorna nishka than the usual paramAtmudu jivatmadu , one just felt he could have gone more with both neraval and swaras they both had the right start , but not very fulfilling
The contrast of shyamA was nice and he sang beautifully all along I was waiting if he gives me a glimpse of his other guru TRS , but nope I did not find that at all

A fast number which had a begada or some janya of the overcrowded #28 and #29 was there and gone , I did not catch even a single line there. The main in khara was nice spread of alApana and I did spot little more overlap of TNS there in pakala nilapadi , the neraval and swaras had the same poorvikalyANi feel , why not more in neraval and swaras???
Both the tukkadas were well done infact they both were the best picks for me , the dEsh was a bEsh start from anupallavi(very emotive and extremely well done) and the last pazhani malai perumAle had a nice spread of classicism in its thiruppugazh way where you get half and you never get the other half , that is usual crib with all musicians. ;(
The violinist was a bit slow and her returns were not that sharp , the mridangist had a nice sound and a good use of left , I longed little more strokes and aggression, the tani was scholarly perhaps as per the person who spoke at the end of tani, but I found it just good.
Overall , DVMK can give more vocal power to his music , at quite a few places it was bit low. Also would be nice if there was more emphasis in swaras and neravals to an extent this was more krithi centric 2 hour concert. Also more accompanist support would have been better. Overall classically a satisfying and it was a good concert for 2 hours.
