Right from the first song till the end, the entire concert was a "divine delight".
What I mean by divine here is that, the entire atmosphere of the musical presentation and aesthetics , is so subtly crafted, that , not a scope is allowed for anything jarring / loud !.
This does not however mean that the intricacies and arithmetic of music is missing. There is a lot of maths, permutation, speed, brigha - but all done with superb precision like a small smooth " Swiss Knife " and not like a long loud sword.!!
RV's musical power and genius comes in full force during her neravals and swaras. So many kalapramanas, being dexterously interwoven like fine muslin ! Seemingly easy, but difficult to reproduce.
Every item was a gem ; finely stringed together, gave us a precious necklace.
Every artiste thrives best with a particular combination of accompaiment.
In RV's concerts, the RKS and KA combine works best, as both these capable artistes have by now understood the main artist and her approach well. They craft their presentation to suit to the demands of the main presentation , wonderfully shadowing and enhancing the whole concert.

It was a great concert. I personally loved the whole concert. The sAvEri was awesome. The kIravANi was elaborate and absolutely bhava laden. The main srI rAgam was fantastic. All the songs seem to have been carefully chosen for the occasion. There was a good mix of ragams and composers and all the songs were rendered with a lot of bhavam and classicism. The accompanists were wonderful and made it a concert to remember for a long time.

Vedavalli delivers such beautiful music, with such apparent ease. It is amazing to see and wonderful to hear.
Fabulous concert, as has been said, from start to finish.

Thanks Sivapriya and Bharath for the reviews. An admirable collection of songs. Wish she had added on an Ambujam Krishna song too since it was the composer's ishTa daivam's day. She sang a favorite (daritApu) in sAvEri -a kruti dripping with rAga bhAva and pathos.
Nick,
I'm happy you made it to your favorite vidUshi's concert. The numero uno fan in Mumbai would have missed it most!

Yes, the Saveri Krithi is a beautiful one, don't hear it too often these days though. Have heard Voleti's version and TNS' as well..

I entered as Smt Vedavalli was singing sAvEri AlApanai. I felt RKSK could've played a little longer AlApanai of sAvEri after this (but not having heard Smt Vedavalli's whole alap I can't say!) Anyway, the sAvEri neraval and the kIravANi neraval-swarams were all awesome. shrI rAgam was majestic. I was left longing for a tAnam (especially from RKSK!) But the kriti transported you to another world! Thyagarajaswamy indeed made such ... response-inducing
compositions.

Arasi :
you know what I thought vedavalli amma would sing "uruga vendamo rama rama endru" a composition by Ambujam Krishna and tuned by Vedavalli amm herself in Keeravani. Sometimes on stage, though she pre plans a song, she suddenly changes the song depending on the stage and audience mood. however Tharithapulena , was a sumptuous fare, with a lot of old world charm, mightly unheard of these days.

Of course. I am very lucky to have such a great Guru, but very unlucky to miss most of her concerts, especially treasures like this! Such is life, unfortunately...arasi wrote: The numero uno fan in Mumbai would have missed it most!
