G Ravi Kiran at Jaynagar in bengaluru
Since i enjoyed this young man's previous outing while I was in Chennai, I wanted to listen to him sing a regular concert - hence made it to Jaynagar all the way from Whitefield (which Is where I stay when I am in bengaluru).
Landed a bit late and while i entered he was singing a brisk alapanai in latangi and the keerthanam was patnams aparadamula.
my favorite dikshitar's sri ramam ravi kulabdi somam was next rendered with perfect clarity.
next was my pick - a nice and orthodox todi which had a fullness of voice and feeling...
enduku daya radura in misra chapu is rarely heard atleast by me in concerts these days - so loved the keerthanam and the neraval.
next was a surprise RTP in ritigowlai with some tricky pallavi - couldn't understand the exact idam of the pallavi but it was in some odd number only.
ragamaliga consisted of gowlai, kedaragowlai and mayamalawagowlai - sung in reverse finally too.
i left towards the end so missed out on the tukkudas -- someone can fill in?

Re: G Ravi Kiran at Jaynagar in bengaluru
forgot to mention
violin: amritha murali
mridangam - mannarkoil balaji
morsing - bengaluru rajasekar
accompanists did an excellent job - though i felt violin could have played more confidently - despite that she was excellent.
mridangam was perfect foil to the vocalist - there was good sync between all of them.
enjoyed this one.

Re: G Ravi Kiran at Jaynagar in bengaluru
Good to hear that two of our forumites were performing in Jayanagar--which sabha?
Such pukkA pakka vAdyams too. I have heard Amruta accomapny Ravikiran before (accompanying his guru too, once). Then there was our Balaji and Rajashekhar whose mOrsing makes a statement (speaks?).
Ravikiran,
It will be nice if you will share some of your music with us on the forum...

hi,
Whitefield to Jayanagar, definitely a long trip.
Thanks for the review.
Lathangi and Reethigowlai RTP are something that I like in this concert.
May be you can add the organiser and venue of the concert.
And may be you can recollect more details like other songs and main and submain details.

Re: G Ravi Kiran at Jaynagar in bengaluru
Was there a seperate google calendar created exclusively for bangalore created by some one whose name I forgot now , also kp jayan(braindrain) takes a lot of pains to post all schedules in bangalore. Are all bangalore kutcheri schedules not available in one of the two, perhaps all in bangalore have to update it at regular intervals?vanamali wrote:( There are too many Ramanavami series going on now in Bangalore and not many schedules are available.

Re: G Ravi Kiran at Jaynagar in bengaluru
The entire songlist of the concert goes thus :
1) sarasUda - sAveri-Adi
2) dinamaNi vamsa - harikAmbojhi-Adi
3) aparAdamula-latAngi-Adi
4) srI rAmam-nArAyaNa gowla-Adi
5) enduku dayarAdurA-tOdi-Misra chApu
6) RTP-rEtigowla-Khanda triputa-2 Kalai
Eduppu - 11 counts after samam (ie., after 3 counts on little finger) Dasaratha bAla rAmachandraiah ... (Arudi kArvai-14 and Daya Nidhe Maam pahi ...
It was a tricky pallavi in which Ravi sang madhyama, vilamba and athi vilamba .. which were rendered precisely ...
7) Japava Maadidarenu-Devarnama in Hindola
8 ) sApasya kOusalya-jOnpuri
9) sri rAma jaya rAma-Yadukulakambojhi
10) Mangalam
It was a full three hour concert.
Me and Rajasekar played a Misram Tani and another short thani with mohara and kOrvai for Khanda Triputa for the Pallavi.
Proper feedback was not there .. may be that is the reason amruta was a bit unheard otherwise on stage i found her to be as competent as anyone else ....
The audience turnout was very good and they enjoyed every bit of Ravi's singing. He has a very good voice which is robust and at the same time capable of producing the bhava. His rEthigowla stands testimony to this point.
On the whole the concert was memorable.

Good to hear from you Balaji, the mEDai (from the stage) person! Wish I were there to hear you in Bengaluru too. Is it the first time you are playing with Rajashekhar whose mOrsing sings?
How a sound system can bring a good concert a notch down! However, the venue draws quite a number of listeners, I've found.

If I am right, we are talking about Vid. B Rajashekar, son of Vid. Bhimachar, a great morching vidwan of yesteryears.
I do not know if he goes by the name Bangalore Rajashekar now.
