Re: Full mangalam anyone?
Sriram, I agree. MDR is singing this as a regular song and not as a fast filler for ending a concert. The song occasionally deserves such a leisurely treatment.
Here is a post processed version, speeded up while still approx. keeping it in MDR's sruthi... I asked MDR for permission and he said 'Go Ahead'

It sounds good and brisk at the beginning but the last one third sounds quite rushed. ( you and I share any punishment for this

VK:
hahaha. this sounds hilarious. as if MDR is shivering and singing at gun point.
surely, you weren't serious, i hope. either that, or my VLC player is just not playing this right.
Thank you
sriram

I found it funny too. No spring time then at the place it came from, Kokilam? Sounded as if it came from Camp something en route to Mt. Everest
While your wizardry in technology can do wonders, this was, yes, a bit shivery

Actually it sounds worse ( or more funny ) when streamed through esnips, not that it was too much better on my system itself. The original recording itself was not that great. I think the shivering is due to some effects I added. Of course, no disrespect meant to MDR, I was trying to solve sriram's issue and make it less sedate!!
How about this one? A less aggressive attempt. See if you hear less shivering effect

That was great, VK. I mean, MDR sings like a breeze in his melodious voice, all clad in fleece and realaxed...when suddenly he has to give up his winter jacket (at gun point?) as he starts singing 'cakravarti tanujAya'! Before that, it seemed as though he was beckoning to me as he sang (you know the line).

Dear kunthalavarali
Thank you very much. This version is quite good.
vk,
thank you also for your valiant efforts with digital effects.
btw, some CDs call this very mangalam as madhyamavati. This particular song is always sourashtram, no?

Kunthalavarali, thanks for that version.
I think the usual practice also is to sing it mostly in Sourashtram and finish with a few flourishes of Madhyamavathi. Here MDR sings the first half in sourashtram and then switches to Madhyamavathi for the second half.

Re: Full mangalam anyone?
Way back In 1980, There was concert of MDR during the Rama navami festival at Ayodhya Mandabam. At the end of the concert, when MDR started singing" Pavamana " , many of the rasikas stood up to leave. Then MDR requested all the rasikas to sit down and told them that all music rasikas should listen to the full song of " Pavamana " and then only the rasikas should disperse. He conveyed the meaning of the song to the audiance.
MDR informed that the " Dosham " assimilated by listening to the mistakes commited by the musician in terms of not pronouncing the song phrasings correctly, in not singing the correct notes etc will be cleared when the listeners listen to the full song of " Pavamana " and the arists also will be cleared from the " Dosham ".
Then he sang the full charanams of the song " Pavamana ".
Of course I don't know the meaning of the Telugu words.
Some knowledgable members of this forum may throw more light on the full meaning of the song " Pavamana ". and confirm MDR's explanation.

Re: Full mangalam anyone?
This is a delightful mangalam by the great Chembai: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aea8jj5T_zQ
As usual, Chembai is in a chatty mood!
It seems there is another concert coming up, but Chembai sings mangalam any way. Would anyone know which concert this is from?
