Mysore Nagaraj and Mysore Manjunath at Sri Rama Seva Mandali

Post by vanamali »

Vid Mysore Nagaraj and Mysore Manjunath - Violin Duet
Vid Arjun Kumar - Mridangam
Vid Giridhar Udupa - Ghatam
Vid Arun Kumar - Rhythm Pads (!)
Venue: Srirama Seva Mandali, Masti Ranga Mandira, Shankarapuram - Mar 29th 2010.

1. sogasuga mridanga - sriranjani
2. endaro mahanubhavulu - Sri
3. brovabarama - bahudari
4. bagayanayya - chandrajyothi
5. ragan thanam 'fusion notes' - vakulabharanam, followed by thani.
6. bhagyada lakshmi - Sri
7. Jo Bhaje - sindhu Bhairavi
8. mangalam

This was more of a 'fun' concert for the artistes. it looks like they had come to enjoy themselves playing and experimenting. There was a rhythm pads also, which i personally did not like. It gave the sound of cinema music or pop music when played. The hall also doesnt have good acoustics and at times the concert got very noisy, especially when the rhythm pads was playing.

Now looking forward to more serious concerts by them during this season. :)

Vanamali,
I agree with you and hope the next concert of theirs I might go to doesn't
include 'what was that?'. A bit surprising that this happened in the Rama Navami series rather than in a hall somewhere else. Manjunath plays in fusion concerts, I know. The brothers are among my favorite accompanists but of late, when it comes to their performing as a duo, I find that I cannot appreciate their speedy playing spells. Such mastery over the instrument but such a giddy speed which they sport at times snaps me out of my appreciation for their music.

I really look forward to hearing the brothers anytime. But this time, I was left with my ears closed for the most part of the concert :-(. Given that the concert was for almost 2.5 hours ... hee hee...

vanamali is not referring to Fort high school Rama Seva mandali... A lot of RSMs have propped up in bangalore and this is one of them in Shankarpuram
