I am informed by a friend that Sri Iswaran, husband of Sangeetha Kalanidhi D K Pattammal passed away this morning.

Looks like he hung on to 'look after her' as he promised his mother-in-law all those many years ago. After Smt. DKP passed away, I am sure he felt lost - rather like 'dO hansOn kA jODa bichaD gayO rE'.

Oh no!!! What terrible news!!! I had the good fortune of meeting this lovely couple last year. I consider myself fortunate that I was able to do namaskaram to Ishwaran Mama and Pattammal Amma. He stood with Pattammal Amma like a rock as she blazed a trail through the Carnatic music world. A great man and a significant loss to the Carnatic music fraternity. My condolences to his family and the DKP / DKJ shishya parampara who held him in great reverence. I hope the moderators will permit me to post this picture here. From todays hindu, " recently when a relative told him So looks like you will score a century,,he said , ohi wanted to,but not any more.Not after Patta passed away."
I was fotunate enough to meet this couple and receive their blesing last year.

Probably a slip in Nick's memory, but I do recollect that he attended the Inaugural function on the opening day of the R K Venkatarama Shastry birth centenary at Raga Sudha Hall and also filing a report on the function.
This was also reported in "The Hindu". Sri Iswaran was present on the occasion along with Smt DKP.

That would have been the only occasion on which I saw, but did not speak to, Smt DKP outside of her house.

I had visited DKP's house to pay condolences on the second day after her demise, alongwith Smt.Vedavalli and her husband Santhanam. Sri. Iswaran was right there, sitting on his easy chair sharing his thoughts with the visitors who kept coming along. He remembered each one of us. I introduced myself telling him about my father and he instantly recalled . He was monitoring the caterers and asked them to fetch coffee and give it to all present there, saying that we should drink something. Just with this presence and eye movements, he was passing instructions, all this at the ripe old age of 96!!

Sad that he is gone from this world .
