ravi2006 passed away...

Post by erode14 »

Ravi2006(Ravi Ramadas), a member of our forum passed away last week in UK owing to heart attack. When I heard the news, I did not believe and wanted to call him and checked his mails. One was sent by him from his rasika id, where he happened to read a review of mine and he had sent a forum mail.

A good boy, aged around 26, a sishya of UKS Sir, T.K.G. and Savithri Sahthyamurthy... Two years ago, he was here for the season and sang a wedding concert too. janani ninnu vinA was main and he beautifully rendered the niraval and swaram at thAmasamu sEyakanE brOvumu. Myself and Akkarai Swarnalatha accompanied him.

The classes and the days of his arangetram, for which PSN mama sang at Sasthri Hall will be ringing forever in my mind.

My heartfelt condolences to his parents, sister and friends.

A young talent nipped in the bud! What a tragedy! No words can console his parents and family. May God give them the strength to bear this sorrow with fortitude and grace.

Heartfelt condolences to the family! Loosing a child is probably the worst tragedy any parent can face - my heart goes out to the parents.

That being said, I think it is time that all our artists (and members too, I guess) started to take better care of themselves. A heart attack at such a young age (unless it was secondary to congenital problems) could and should have been prevented with routine health check-ups. So, please make an appointment to see your physicians, take their advice seriously and put it into practice with the same fervor with which you practice your art!

Young or old it is a must. I totally agree with Shri R Shankar's message. BTW if any of our forumites can upload Shri Ravi Ramadas' photo will be helpful to recollect our memories. Just a request.

Not to digress, but I have compiled a document on 'Obesity in Indians', with suggestions on what to look for, when to get check ups, suggested tips for weight maintenance/loss etc. from the medical literature germane to us. It is a living document that I update as I come across new and relevant information. If people are interested, I will start a new topic (in the Member's Lounge) and provide a link to the document....

Condolences to the family on the loss of a loved one and that too so young. rshankar's advice is appropriate. While the previous generations of musicians did not enjoy the medical advances of today, and as such fell a victim to heart attack(GNB,Palani et al) present day artistes are relatively well off and as such can afford to take care of themselves even if it meant putting a temporary hold on their careers.

I recall a year before GNB died when he had come to Mumbai for a concert, came to my father's flat in matunga and not wishing to climb the two floors because of the heart attack, asked my father to come down to discuss an important matter re: an alliance for one of his daughters. My father then advised him to take better care of his health in view of his heart condition to which GNB I believe replied in Tamil" Mahadevan,Nan Eppadi inda samsarathai vacchundu kutcheri pannamal rest eduthukka Mudiyum--Idu Nadakkara Kariama"(with my family responsibilities, how can I rest without undertaking kutcheris)--he knew he needed rest but his family responsibilities precluded him from taking care of his health in the end depriving his family of the sole breadwinner.
Today's artistes with their extensive concert schedules within India and abroad also have to contend with erratic and diverse eating environment and schedules which only serve to exacerbate the problem even amongst healthy ones. From my experience of watching them--especially the male artistes--I have to confess they could stand some improvement in their habits/schedules.

Ofcourse hereditary conditions may not be avoidable but all the more the need for resrtaint and moderation.

Dear friends,

It is quite shocking to hear Shri Ravi Ramadas has passed away. Just recently he rendered a lovely Nadopasana in Begada at the Thyagaraja aradhana event held at Wimbledon temple.
His parents Shri&Smt Ramadas had shared a CD of Ravi's music with me a few months ago...

Ravi will be sorely missed. I pray to God to give the strength to his parents and family & friends as they go through these difficult times...

Jayaram
