Re: Meaning of this song
It is a padam in pantuvarALi - nETRu varEn enru dayamiga pESinavar innALum vara kANEnE. If Lji posts the lyrics, I can translate.
From the pallavi, I think this padam (like all others!) describes a virahOtkhaNdita nAyikA waiting for her lover who has broken his promise to her - she says, 'the man (avar) who spoke (pESina) so kindly (dayamiga) and claimed that (enru) he would return (varen) yesterday (nETRu) is still not to be seen (kANEnE) to arrive (vara) today (innALum)'

Re: Meaning of this song
Here is the padArtha for this padam. Ms. Bhargavi's presentation of this is exquisite. I loved the way she created the scene by the river, where, while the nAyika is enjoying the reflection of the crescent moon in the water, she is disturbed by seeing a man's face.
pallavi
nETru varEn enru nayamAgap-pEsiyavar innALum vara kANEne en tOzhi
I have not observed/seen (kANEnE) the man who spoke (pESiyavar) so nicely/gracefully/tenderly (nayamAga) making promises that (enRu) he would come (varEn) to me yesterday (nETRu), arrive (vara) even today (innALum) [1], my (en) friend (tOzhi).
anupallavi
kATru uLLa pOdu nAn tUTrik-koLLAmalE tOTram marainda pin tigaikkirEn en tOzhi
Instead of not wasting/squandering (tUTRik-koLLAmalE) my opportunities while he was here in flesh and blood (kATRu uLLa pOdu) [2] yesterday, I am now bewildered/taken aback (tigaikkirEnaDi) by his actions after (pin) he has disappeared/his form (tOTRam) had disappeared (maRainda), my (en) friend (tOzhi).
caraNam
ATram karai tanilE andip-pozhudinile yArum ariyAmale aNaittAn en dEvan
maTrariya/mASillA shenpon mEniyaik-kaNDu nAn mayangi avar vasamAnEn en tOzhi
My (en) Lord (dEvan) embraced (aNaittAn) me on (tanilE) the banks (karai) of the river (ATRam/ATRu) at dusk (andipozhudinilE) unbeknownst (aRiyAmalE) to anyone (yArum). I (nAn) was intoxicated (mayangi) when I beheld (kaNDu) his blemishless (maTRaRiyA/mASillA), beautiful (Sen) golden (pon) complexion (mEniyai) and became (AnEn) a pawn under his (avar) control (vaSam), my (en) friend (tOzhi).
FOOTNOTES
[1] Although innALum refers to the present (i) day (nALum), I loved the touch the dancer imparted to show that it was dusk, with lamps being lit, and the birds flying back to their nests
[2] kATRu uLLa pOdu literally at a time (pOdu) when there is (uLLa) breath (kATRu) – i.e., someone who is alive, in flesh and blood

Re: Meaning of this song
Ravi,
mATRu aRiyA (that which knows not, is not an admixture of any other metal, and as a result, pure--paSum pon). mASilA conveys the same meaning (with no impurities).
kATRu uLLa pOdE tUTRikkoLLudal (to sieze a moment, carpe diem--literally means: winnow when the wind is blowing--easier to get rid of the chaff?)

@ Sou2 and pgopa
two mrigashrishas at 2.09-2.10 usually is used for signifying 'happening' . You can see it used here for 'to make something happen'
while i had the oppurtunity, i didnt make it happen...
u can also see it used in this video here for ganesha sthothramn at 2.50:2.53:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zMtNcUuAiQc
gajananam, bhoota ganadi sevitham.........
..............................................
...uma sutham, shokha vinasha karanam
meaning:
the one who is (karanam) makes happen/is the reason for (vinasha)destruction of shokha (sadness)
If i come across any other videos which show the usage, i will post them up.
