Frame #149-Trichur V Ramachandran(middle),myself(left) and VKV (right)-had a nice free-wheeling session with Uday and fellow rasikas.

More on the festival and the swirling heated discussions about Sustaining Sampradaya later----

Many thanks cienu, you make us feel part of the festival.
The beaming face (Radha mukha kamalam) of Radha brightens every scene. I notice the Sun is also out at Cleveland. You /MKR should share with us the recollections of Radha on the return to CM in US after a gap of 40 odd years.. It must be quite emotional! It is nice to see Uday going around actively in spite of the recent tragedy in the family. All these must be a novel experience for Aishu - our future hope ! Keep sharing more pictures and highlights of the concert too....

Dear Meenaakshi,
At age 76 I hope I can be forgiven for being SENTIMENTAL.
THANKS A MILLION for you EXCELLENT PICS. As one who came to USA in 1959 with FIVE DOLLARS & actulally carried on his head Umayalpuram Sivaraman's Mridangam in 1962 in MANHATTAN, N.Y.after a 4.5 hour S.Balachander's concert in N.Y.City center(could not afford to hire a taxi) I CANNOT DESCRIBE IN WORDS my ELATION at seeing how things are today. Lets not waste our energies on other subjects like some one making money on these efforts; ANY ONE WHO HAS TRIED TO ARRANGE ANYTHING IN N.A. I BET HAVE LOST CLOSE TO AT LEAST 10K IN U.S. DOLLARS. INSTEAD LETS discuss how to MAKE CARNATIC MUSIC SUPREME IN NORTH AMERICA. LETS FULFIL THE PROPHETIC foresight & insight of VVS. As one who drove LGJ& RAMANI close to 40,000 miles-PROF. D.Sundararaman of Howard U IN D.C. DROVE CLOSE TO 20000 MILES- in 1971 I m AMAZED at how VVS has managed to make this experience close to NASA VVIP EXPERIENCE!.....VKV

Meenakshi: Thanks for the pics.Enjoyed our four-way chat(Udhay,Ajit, myself and yourself).I wish I had stayed longer!!!

VKV sorry could not say bye to you--had to return on Sunday noon.I am sure the rest of the program would go well.
Amazed at your energy/enthusiasm despite over 50 years of relentless struggle against "arm-chair" criticism--I guess your developing that "thick skin" over the years has helped.!! Apparently your passion for music has "dulled" the harshness of ill-informed criticism!!
Let's stay in touch!!
Ramesh.

Cienu,

Didn't your cousin (Smt. Kamakshi Mallikarjun) speak at the book-release function (of MS and Radha) in Dec 2008? I seem to remember her emotion-packed words....

Yes indeed she is the same Kamakshi who spoke just before the website on MS was launched by Dr M.S.Swaminathan

Ouch, Chennai feels so hot (only in terms of temperature  ) after Cleveland and Pittsburgh !

As these incriminating pictures show, I had a wonderful time for a day in Cleveland, meeting many "old" friends, some for the first time !

Take Cienu for example...although this is the first time we met in person, it felt like meeting an old friend. I also had the pleasure of meeting his lovely daughter Kum. Aishwarya as well as the privilege of seeking the blessings of his mum. Unfortunately, my breakneck work schedule (not reflected by my silly demeanour in these pictures) didn't permit me to hang around longer or long enough to listen to their Katcheri (must be going on as I type ?)) as well as other Katcheris :( . Kudos to the family for accepting the invitation to come to Cleveland, given the circumstances.

Other than that I had a great time talking and arguing with authentic mad scientist shri VKV and hanging out with Ajit, MKR and others. If only photos could talk, the hit rate of photos with Shri M K Ramasubramaniam would bring down servers. He regaled us with so many interesting anecdotes and stories and annotated them with some amazing singing. It is a pity that shri MKR is not sitting on stage and giving katcheris...melodious voice, firm grip on laya, great gnyanam and creativity, charming personality, etc, etc.. It is never too late !

Meenaakshi, it was great meeting you. Thanks for the pics ! Hope you had time to take off from your various chores to be able to listen to the TNS katcheri.
