The brothers are in general equal in class, you donot find a valley of difference in their performance when compared to other siblings in concerts. They started well with good swarams and a clear diction in gowlipantu. The next athAnA was new to me and was very good too. The janaranjani and the usually good cittaswarams was just average ,I could notice little of begada during the swarams.
Ranjani was certainly the best , with ravi's (assuming the not tall brother is ravi) wonderful alApana .Neravals and swarams were crisp and complete. When two singers share the concert , ragas like neelAmbari do take a hit as the alankarams gets unfortunately killed by their sum total of their pitch. neelAmbari was below average and shyAma was a shade better than neelAmbari.
calmbOdhi was started with a slow puddi by sreeram and was very average. The brand new vasudevAcharya's krithi transferred back from calmbOdhi to kAmbOdhi and was quite good . However neravals and swarams were too short and plain. All the tukkadAs were excellent, especially I liked the kamAs the best .
Varadarajan's violin was very good in ranjAni , though left a lot desired in KAmbodhi and was little scratchy. KV prasad was a vanilla plain mridangist. ghatam was a victim to the sound man's poor adjustment. Tani was plain too.
Came with the feeling that The brothers always have the advantage of singing in their mother tongue and that was evident with their clear diction in all the telugu krithis. But how much I missed in not even hearing once SSI in a live concert???
