K Jyotsna, Naada Inbam, 18 April 2010

Post by Nick H »

I'm starting this thread in the hope that there was someone there tonight who can contribute a learned assessment, song list, etc.

I ended up at Raga Sudha tonight because I had failed to notice the words "...on Wednesday 21st April" on the advertisement for another concert :$ , so, being in Luz anyway, thought I might as well drop in and make it a third consecutive evening there.

This was a fantastically musical and mature concert from a really wonderful artist of whom I had never heard before. Can someone tell something about her?

Akkarai Swarnlatha's violin was very well matched and a delight to listen to.

Arjun Ganesh also perfectly matched his mridangam to the singing. His tani was very melodic.

A wonderful evening :)

Oh, so they changed the sides today? I'd been expecting the sides would be Akkarai Swarnalatha and Arjun Ganesh. I might have just turned up for Amritha's accompaniment! (Not to be misunderstood: I like Akkarai's accompaniment too, but you know, I wouldn't be very pushed to attend just for her accompaniment!) Though I would've been late ...

Have made a mental note to try and listen to Jyotsna (irrespective of the sides!) next chance I get, since you liked today's concert!

And now I'm going to check The Hindu to know what was listed for 21 April.

I hear she learns from Smt Seetha Rajan.

You are a fan of Amritha Murali? I can understand why; she does play beautifully.

Nick attended both the concerts on 17th and 18th April and has obviously got things mixed up. The artistes on these dates were:-

17.04.10 Sumitra Vasudev, Amritha Murali, Shertalai Anantha Krishnan.
18.04.10 K Jyotsna, Akkarai Swarnalatha, Arjun Ganesh

Sumithra sang an enchanting Sama (Guruguhaya), excellent Kiravani (Rama Rama) and resplendent Kedaragowlai (Vanaja Nayanudani).

Jyotsna gave a very good account of herself in Kalyani, Sahana and Thodi (Kaddhana Variki). Bound to go far.

So I have! How embarrassing! I "just copied" the names from the Naada Imbam sheet, and "just copied" them from the wrong concert! What an idiot. Thanks... I've edited the opening post.

Sumitras's concert was excellent too. I do hope we get to see a lot more of both of these ladies.

I was sorry not to see you there: you missed a treat.

But the last few times I've seen you at a concert, you seem to rushing out all the time! Have you tried the line, "Oh, I'm sorry, my phone must have been switched off and I didn't realise." ? ;)

Its a shame people are not letting you get your uninterrupted music.
