Samvada, Sampradaya's regular programme featuring interviews of artists was held on 24th april (saturday) at 6:30 pm at raga sudha

Artist of the Day: Nadasvaram Maestro Thiruvarur Sri S Latchappa Pillai
Interviewer: Dr. M A Bhagirathi

Sri Pillai explained the evolution of the nAdasvaram tradition and also rather elaborately placed on record the various aspects of nadasvaram music and traditions that are followed in the Thiruvarur Thyagaraja Swamy Temple. He also showed the bari and timiri nAdasvarams, nAdasvaram made of ivory, mukha vINai. He also played a few phrases on all of them except the mukhavINai. He also played the rakti, demonstarted the concept of chauka varNams, the 3 ways of playing nAdasvarams viz., svara-based, akAra-based and thatttakAram (i hope i got the terms right!).

Sadly, i dint make notes or record and hence cant elaborate very much. will add points to the thread, as and when i recollect
