The Ar / Av of Mandaari is as foll :
Mandaari : | from 50 - nAmanArAyaNi | :

There is another similar rhyming Ragam : mandhAri :
mandhAri : | from 51 - kAmavardhini [ = panthuvarALi, kAshirAmakriya ] :
S R1 G3 M2 P N3 S | S N3 P M2 G3 R1 S

ie, the diff is N2 vs N3.

So, could someone pl confirm if the Ragam of above song is :
Mandaari OR mandhAri. Thanks.

Recently, I heard the foll Varnam in a Kutcheri :

vanajAksha ninne kOri
... Ninne Nannu Na ...
Swarams
... Nee Kanti ...

One reviewer wrote in his blog that this Varnam was sung in Ragam mandAri, but he was not sure if the composer was Mysore Vasudevachar??

So, could someone pl send me the complete, exact Lyrics, the exact Ragam name, Talam and Composer info of this Varnam. Thanks.

But, I had raised other queries too - mainly relating to the diff betn mandAri and mandhAri.

http://www.karnatik.com/ragasm.shtml#mandAri lists out songs based on mandAri (janya of 50 - nAmanArAyaNi).

Q : Could someone pl let us know the top 3 - 4 popular songs in CM, based on Ragam : mandhAri (janya of 51 - kAmavardhini [ = panthuvarALi, kAshirAmakriya ])

Also details like Taalam, Composer, lyrics if possible of these 3 - 4 songs.

The only surviving mandAri (yes it is pronounced that way) is a janya of kAmavardhini/ kAshi rAmakriyA, and has N3 as opposed to N2, which it would use as a janya of nAmanArAyaNI.


popular songs in the prevalent form of mandAri are -

1. paralOkabhaya - tyAgarAja
2. ninnu jeppa kAraNam - paTNam subrahmanyayyar
3. endukitu capalamu - ditto
4. EnnALLu tirigEdi - HarikEsanallur. Muthiah bhAgavatar

and the varNam you mention.

There is also a tillana of Tanjore Chinnaiah wrongly attributed to PatnaM.

Then, are you implying that the Ar / Av given in :

is WRONG ? - it clearly states N2, NOT N3.

Do other music experts have an opinion on this ?

I have four versions of mandAri in my database. They are in melAs 50, 51 and 52.
Different musicologists interpret a raga differently. For example the rAgA kApi has more than 8 versions. So one cannot say that mandAri with N2 is wrong.
