18.05.2010 Let me explain a few things about the Ravichandrika - Raghesree Jugalbandi.

This is not a concert Jugalbandi. This is a work of mixing of to songs Ravichandrika
by Sri S.Kalyanaraman and Raag Ragesree by Sri Ustad Munovar Ali Khan.

This brilliant work was done by none other than our Coolkurni who listens to music of various genres for many hours.

The salient points are;

1. Perfect match of the Sruthi of both the artists.
2. The formation of notes is almost the same for the two Ragas except for one note [ Comments from experts please].
3. The individual volume levels of the song is high for a few minutes of the artist and
overlap mix of the second artist commences with the low volume and gradually
the volume level of the first artist is gradully lowered while simultaniously the second artist's volume level is increased.

I hope that the points raised by Sri Appu are answered.

Brilliant idea! Thanks to coolkarni. Wish he was also here to discuss the highlights of the enterprise. This is a great way of enjoying compatible CM and HM merged on an equal footing. Only problem is that there is no live interchange of swara prastara which enhances the live jugalbandi !
The idea is worth pursuing further. Congrats to coolkarni for seeding the idea and thanks to you for sharing it...

I am reminded of my days in Hyderabad. CM from Madras A and HM from Hyderabad (both on medium wave) would clash resulting in an unwanted but unavoidable "jugalbandhi". Badly recorded cassettes also result in such "jugalbandhis". My humble request is that let us not do it deliberately. The experiment may lead to unwanted results.

By the way, the mail I have received from Mr.Coolkurni regarding the reason

for doing such an experiment is given below.

Dear SN,

This has reference to comments on the remix track raised by you .I wish to

state the following so that the track is heard in the correct context.

1.This remixing was designed to give my young son an idea about the

fundamental differences in approach - between HM and CM.
A kind of introducing CM to HM enthusiasts.Not the other way around.
2.This helped give him a idea of the relative nature of pitches at which Music is

rendered.And an idea of a perfect alignment of the pitches of two souls who

are no with us anymore.Especially withn Lalgudis accompaniment on , he

found it extremely exciting.
3.I thought up this track on a day Lalgudi Jayaraman remarked to me - You

should listen as much as possible , to SK and Balchander . Brilliant geniuses ,

they did not get what they deserved.
4.This also signifies my heartburn at Jugalbandi artists dishing out Yaman ,

Hamsadhwani , Chalanata ad nauseum. Why dont they ever work on other

exciting combinations like Jogiya , Kedar , Hindol ....
5.This track is also a great acknowledgement of the Sruthi Shuddham niceties

of the SK-LLG
6.Viewed purely as a eductative tool , I must say I could have recorded them

separately on different channels with the option to the listener to changes

balances along the way.
7.I am happy that this experiment has helped me make the case of SK strong ,

in my Son's Hindusthani scheme of things.
8.Needless to add , he has settled down to hearing the two versions

separately.

I am currently mixing up MLV and Malini Rajurkar Dhani - Shudha Dhanyasi

and am struck at the HM-like pathos MLV is able to conjure up.
I am offering this feedback fully knowing that , listening to such tracks without

knowing the background is just short of cacaphony.
