Detroit 23 rd Annual Thyagaraja Aradhana Celebrations at Flint Temple

May 15 th

The Detroit 23 rd annual thyagaraja aradhana celebrations got off to a great start with the rendering of Pancharatnams
lead by Vidwans Sri Shashikiran, Sri Ganesh, Sri Madurai Sundar and Vidushi Smt.Jayalakshmi Santhanam and with
other local area singers joining in.

This was followed by open participation by Metro Detroit Area children in the rendition of thyagaraja compositions.
Several thematic programs were presented by local music schools based on Thyagaraja's compositions. The idea for this
came from Sri. Shashikiran. There was an interesting powerpoint presentation by Sri Shashikiran that was very informative.
Some innovative programs such as a skit on a fantasy meeting of music students
with thyagaraja and a villupattu were also presented.

This was followed by the concert of the day

Concert was exceptional - Highlight for me was the RTP. Violin and Mridangam were very supportive and exceptional as well.

It was nice that the brothers chose suraTi as the finale and that too gItArthamu which fitted in very well as a mangalam--about the gIta, the bliss of music, his singing praises of RamA the protector of all. Good to know that Shashikiran asked the elder vidUshi to join in

The Vidushi's enthusiasm and her memory in rendering all the pancharatnams and the Surutti song were very impressive.

Very nice!
We had those from 'RasikAs' on stage as well. Mannargudi Easwaran, Shashikiran! Besides veteran vidUshi Jayalakshmi Santhanam, it was also nice to see all the children on stage.
