Re: Lyrics please for pAyumoli nI ennaku - subramania bharat
Besides being a patriot, Tamil laureate, Bharathiyar was considered to be an incurable romantic.......is there a list of his romantic compositions.
Can someone offer a translation for this exquisite poetic composition?

Exquisite indeed. A simple/ literal translation follows. The words flow like a torrent, it is beyond my ability to convey the mahakavi's intense expression of love. Corrections most welcome.

Re: Lyrics please for pAyumoli nI ennaku - subramania bharat
Sridhar - awesome! Great translation. Isn't this a part of the mahAkavi's 'kaNNammA yen kAdali' collection where he has imagined parASakti as the love of his life (includes the other favorite of mine - 'kATRuveLiyiDai kaNNammA')?
Some alternate interprettations:
viddaiyaDi nAn unakku - I have always thought of this is 'I am your skill'
nAda vaDivAnavaLE - one who is the personification of music/OmkAra

Thanks sridhar. Very interesting, this amorous take on ParASakti -
Somewhere I saw Bharathiyar holding his wife's hand in a picture -
both in traditional attire - he is panchakachcham, she in madisArai. A public display, quite bold and remarkable for those days.
But somewhere else I read that he was unkind to his wife which seems hard to believe after seeing the picture, or reading his poetry like the one above.

Re: Lyrics please for pAyumoli nI ennaku - subramania bharat
The panchakaccam/maDisAr attire was portrayed in the movie "Bharathi". It was based on a real situation described by some witnesses of yore. He took his wife out holding her shoulder as a sign of rebellion to the orthodox brahmins of KaDayam who were hypocritical and inhibited, characteristic of the community elselwhere too in ThamizhnADu.
As for the "unkind" behavior, it was rather mild (human weakness, if you will). He ignored her material desires even when he was the beneficiary of eTTayapuram rAja. At one time she thought feeding his Christian friend at home was against AcAram and protested his demand to feed him at their home. That was one occasion when Bharathi was "unkind" to her. Later on after meeting NivEditA, he changed completely and went hogwild on elevating womenkind. Too bad he spent many years away from his wife. By the time things were looking up after 1920 he succumbed to the very same Yaman whom he ridiculed in his poems.
ChellammAL recognized his greatness and gave a speech at the AIR in Trichy in 1951 or so. She said she was so ignorant of his greatness in the midst of the material desires of a young married woman. She was down to earth while he was taking flight like a skylark.

here's a real picture of bharathiyar and his wife, with his arm around her, not from the movie.
