I could not attend the one in Chicago due to my child's final exams, but heard that a lot of Telugu People really enjoyed it. It would not be categorized as a lec dem, but the Prince gave a commentary for each song, explained the meaning of the songs and then sang. Not much manodharmam and it was not too technical itseems, however, I heard from several people (specially telugu people) that he sang very well. They said that he is a malayali, but one could not make out as the diction was so good.

Another friend mentioned that the Prince talked about a song composed by St Annamacharya where the meaning goes like this " you created the world and you want us to pray to you and sing your praise. however, you put all these social rules and tasks that one has to perform. By the time I finish all these worldly tasks the time is up. So, how can I sing and pray to you". The Prince explained about this song by the St Anamacharya and said that Swati Thirunal composed something similar and sang that song for the concert.
