The concert started briskly with the varnam and snapfire swaras for Hamsadwani. Raga Alapanai for Chala Natai was soulful and again both kept great count in the swaras. For me, Bhairavi was the piece de resistance where they both drew out every extra soul out of an already beautiful swarajithi. After an elaborate alapanai in Kapi and a melodious Intha Sowkhya, the duo again took off in the Kalpana Swaras displaying different nadais and gathis.
As I sat back in expectation of something big to come, the concert dwindled into a series of thukkadas for the last 40-50 minutes. This was quite disappointing for me considering the calibre of the artistes we had on stage.

Melakaramurthy is a composition of Papanasam Sivan. And yes lots of Thukkadas. But the first half was very, very good
