srI kamalAmbikE - srI - kaNDA Ekam - MD

It was a very good concert. The AlApanais of danyAsi and varALi were both excellent. The main kAmbhOji was rendered very well too. The violinst gave wonderful replies to all the three. All the kritis were rendered well. The neraval and svarams were all measured and fitting to the kriti presented. The violinst was good here as well. The viruttam was brilliant. The mridangist played well, though a little louder at times. The kanjira vidwan was very supportive and played very well. Their longish tani was good too.

>>kalaiyAda kalviyum - viruttam from abhirAmi andAdi <<
To be precise, kalaiyAda kalviyum is the first stanza of two-part (22 verses) 'abhirAmi ammai padigam" wirtten by abhirami bhaTTar.
This is separate from abhirAmi andAdi which consists of 100 stanzas sung while suspended on ropes over a firepit.

For the 22 verses in the 2-part abhirAmi ammai padigam visit the URL below. It is in Thamizh. Beautiful verses!

வாமி! சுப நேமி! புகழ் நாமி! சிவ சாமிமகிழ் வாமி! அபிராமி உமையே!

What does வாமி, நேமி mean?

VAmi is an epithet for pArvati, durga (vAman is an epithet for Shiva)
nEmi means ocean (among others). So subha nEmi would mean "one with immense auspiciousness" i.e., mangaLam,
(ocean indicates enormity here).

vAmi could have come from she of the left (half)(of Shiva) - (vAma bhAgam)

nEmi could also refer to the discuss (chakrAyudham) - but haven't seen the lyrics/ not sure if abhirAmi holds one; so not sure if it fits the context.

one meaning of nEmi is discus ( சக்ராயுதம்) and by extension Vishnu is referred to as nEmi. abhirAmi does not carry a discus.

vAmi appears for example interestingly in the same way in the mukhAri composition "sivakAma sundari." The last line of the charaNam is "rAmadAsan paNiyum abhirAmi vAmi"
