A wow concert for over 3 hours! Sanjay demonstrated why he is called as ussain bolt! a concert complete in all aspects - many unfamiliar songs in familiar ragas. Each of the aspects were well presented. Great alapanas - pantuvarali, kanada, yadukula kambodhi and a majestic todi. All alapanas had right proportions of traditional pidis and improvised sangathis. todi alapana was detailed one, so was thanam. At end of todi alapana, i felt, it had little too much of improvisation towards end, he could have held back little bit. There were three pallavi's sung in different talams, a great treat!! Awsome support by varadarajan, venkatesh and guru prasanna. Varadarajan was his own, and played nice alapanas. Venkatesh's anticipation was perfect - be during neraval, or swarams. I am sure sanjay had entire audience's attention - but quite a bit of audience movement throughout concert.

Earlier, felicitation function was well, speeches were measured. Typically, concerts would be curtailed after felicitation, but not this one!!

Many thanks to organizers for arranging this concert, really a special one.

Was waiting to hear about Neela Ramgopal's birthday celebrations.
You rasikAs seem to have relished the musical treat as well--and short speeches to top it all!
Recently, somone I know in BengaLUru said that as much as he likes to hear Sanjay's RTPs in rAgAs unexplored by many others, he was looking forward to an RTP in a lofty old rAgam too. Hope he was there for the tODi

It was an awesome concert

Few points:
* The organizers did a splendid job. I went there early to be present when Vid. Neela Ramgopal was honored. The speeches were short, crisp, measured and thoughful. Vid. Neela spoke very touchingly. For the 50+ years that she has served c.music in bangalore we all owe her big time. I am sure it has not been easy - and we need to salute her and her family.

* Sanjay's concert was splendid. I had heard only paripalaymam before (I am *not* an expert) - the kanada, y.kambodhi and todi alapanas were very good. He mentioned that the kanada song was a composition of his guru. The tanam was as expected superb. The organizers spoke about how highly Vid. Neela holds Sanjay's music. I am sure he was inspired to sing on this occassion.

* I wonder why there is constant traffic between pieces. Is it because of the bajji/bonda being served outside ?

* Once again - three cheers to the organizers who provided an opportunity to non-shishyas like myself to participate on this occasion and for a memorable concert and evening.

For the "neraval" lovers there was very little on offer.

Overall, a very satisfactory concert. Neyveli was all energy.

This concert was brilliant...
After a long time I was there for a concert from when the curtains were raised till the artists got off the stage, indicating to me that ..thats it no more.. you can go home.
The Todi Alapana was done in stages and it was superb. The long korvais at the shadjam had a somewhat meditating effect and I was amazed at Sanjay's breath control. After all that I was sure it was going to be an RTP. However after the violinist's essay, Neyveli started tuning his mridangam and Sanjay seemed to wait for the mridangam to be tuned so that he could start the Krithi. I was disappointed. It was the longest 30 seconds of pause. Then casually, Sanjay burst into a Thanam. My heart leapt with joy! Yes! thaanam. thats what I want.
The felicitation function that preceded the concert was crisp and well organised. The invocation sung by the kids was apt for the occasion- " guru lekha etuvanti".
A saturday evening ---- well spent.

Congratulations to you on being a key figure (that's what I hear) in making NR's celebration a grand affair. Though I was not there, I'm sure rasikAs who were there want to thank you and others who packaged her birthday gift so nicely.

As the main event is Smt.Neela Ramgopal's birthday function, there were several of her rasikas who had come for the function to felicitate her with bouquets, shawls, etc., I felt that it would have been quite honourable for the recipient as well as the rasika if they had gone on stage, presented their respects and taken mami's blessings. It would hardly have taken an additional five minutes. But for some reason it was done after she came down from the stage and was a bit clumsy. I am sure that there must have been some reason, although I wonder what. All arrangements were done perfectly and we need to sincerely appreciate that.
