Some memorable songs

Post by gobilalitha »

It is seen that some memorable songs with immense mass appreciation, even by those who do not follow the hard , difficult kritis, made famous by leading musicians are not appreciated when others sing it Why 's the question? Is it psychological?
examples , a few songs, (not weighty kritis)
kurai onrum illai MSS
Kandan karunai purivan, nadadanu manisam ,MMI
Baro krishnayya' MLV
ninnu vina (navarasa kannada) flute Mali
Asai konden vande N C Vasantakokilam
Radha sameta krishna GNB
saraseeru hasana priye(veena Karaikudi Sambasiva iyer)

The basic premise that the kritis if sung by others are NOT appreciated is questionable. If other singers sing the songs in their own style, people will appreciate it. If others just copy the original, the duplicates cannot be appreciated as much as the original.

Baro krishnayya has been sung by many others and always popular. Bharathiar songs, for instance , have not been monopolised by anyone. Of course, MS's "special songs" like kurai onrum illai and many others can be appreciated only if sung by MS. The songs themselves are mediocre but the golden voice makes it a masterpiece.

Ravi, A big yes to all the songs mentioned by you. But do you agree that they have stamped their quality on these songs to make us think their rendition cannot be surpassed
Of course there are plenty of such songs by other artists also gobilalitha

Too many mamis, even though not trained in music, are singing it at kolus and at any other opportunity during the year when they are asked to sing something!

YES, that's exactly what I wanted to convey. Probably harimau was reminded of Kamalahasan mami singing 'rukku rukku" in AVVAI Shanmuki gobilalitha
