We do, indeed. Prashant does participate, but rarely
Bilahari too. Another of our dear forumites is too busy with work and matrimony it seems--so long as he is happy. Do I need to say that Arun's absence means that we have less of valuable input?
Janani, you are steeped in your music I guess, but do post!

Meena was not only prolific, she was an alert volunteer in helping rasikAs with her know-how. We still miss her. As for shrikaanth, I have lost count of the times a few of us have requested him to come back. His enlightenment in music at such a young age is something else. Wonder if you have heard his compositions. I wonder if he is still a member after the migration. How I wish he would contribute too!

1. DRS-very serious but knowledgeable. A little more affinity to Karnataka!
2. meena- to the point; his purpose would be to be non controversial; but because of crispness counter productive.
3. Kulkarni (no comments) he gets very angry!
4. VG Vindan- Thyagaraja centric! He also gets angry some times!
5. Clueless and completely clueless- we are completely clueless!
6. Arunk - objectivity and hard work- some times not very correct conclusions!
7. Vocalist- when I came he disappeared.
8. Vijay-litero author
9. Prashanth- breaths CM
10. Kaumaaram-throws useful information occasionally
There are many more....
where are these dear friends?

I wouldn't call chalanata's statements judgemental. He is an observant rasikA who has come to these conclusions. We may or may not agree with him but if we think he is off the mark, we cannot call him judgemental because that too is judgemental
Now, am I being judgemental by saying that? Oh dear! The next melodramatic thread title for the General Section looms large after tyranny and pernicious stuff:

s_p,
I am sure there is an explanation which she might not want to share with others. I e-mailed her some time after her absence. She did respond and merely said that she was not keen on participating anymore. She had her own reasons, I'm sure.
Srini was very active on the forum and also with his sizzling tale Relished Rapports--the dramatic tale about a CM competition. He decided to stop posting for his own personal reasons and deleted his posts too. Happy to say, he is back and let's hope he would stay on, whatever the reasons for his absence.

The forum used to be full of activity (and some controversy!) when the 'veterans' were around...
Somehow doesn't feel the same any more.

Ah, controversy---isn't that the spice of discussions?
An MAS (Mutual Admiration Society) is bound to perish of its own weight of self-importance.
My maternal grandmother ( V K Raman, pl note) taught me that precept.

Well said, Mahakavi. Self-importance is not a good thing and can undo many an egotist. In a MAS one can get carried away, true. Yet admiring each other is not as bad as admiring oneself, is it?

I agree with Mohan - so many topics have been discussed in such great depth and so many times on this forum that a brief trough like this is perfectly understandable! I'm sorry I've been away from the forum so much this last year, but I've been almost living in lab working on my thesis, but once I submit it tomorrow, I'm free! And I get to celebrate it with Rama Varma's concert on Sunday. So long story short, I'm back. And here's to more fruitful music discussions with fellow rasikas - whether old or new.

Not sure if it's just that topics have been discussed already, that has led to a reduction in activity here.
I recall we used to have heated discussions on various topics that had been discussed in some form earlier...
Nick is right, forums do go thru phases. Hope our active phase will resume again...

cml and mahakavi,
thanks. you guys, srkris and others are doing a great job. yes, I too would like to post, but there are quite a few developments on my end, good and bad.... Before 2002, when I was in midwest, during the glorious days of sangeetham BB, I had a lot of time to spare for everything including watching sangeetham..... , but then my dad died suddenly, I got married, had to relocate to east coast for better prospects and to join my wife after marriage, blessed with two adorable children, had to spend a good part of each day at work to excel in my profession, and then all my time is gone WATCHING the two kids growing......
well, I will try to post.... but not sure if I can keep my word...... I still keep watching........ continue your good work.

Quite a few significant changes (milestones) in your life! How life progresses! Though a bit late, wishing you and your other half a good life together.
The best of all is watching your two kids grow! Bless them!

"The old order changeth yielding place to new". How true! But then there will be chances to revisit old passion(s) as the events roll by. After you moved east your life got busier and we lost touch. But with some more accumulated wisdom (you know, the children confer them on you---it is called reverse genetics), and a few gray hairs you will come back for sure!

arasi, thanks for your good wishes.....
vk raman sir, thank you. I did not listen to your flute live in the past few years, but more than two decades ago, I listened to your live concert first time... sometime during 1988-89 in Tirupati in my late teens. after a nice dinner in a mess on the threerthakatta street, I was heading back to SV polytechnic campus, and when I reached annamacharya project building (next to tyagaraja mandir), there you were playing flute and your music captivated me... that was a wonderful concert..... hope all is going well with you.
cml, thanks for your nice words. I try my level best to maintain this precious connection....
mahakavi, you know me well.... and sometime after moving to NY we lost touch. you are right.... you know what... I find gray hairs, indeed, but not sure about the wisdom...
so I will stop here recalling my memory with the seemingly not-much-useful past, and will get back to the forum soon with useful stuff for forumites.. and pl. pardon my english....

Raman sir,why don't you start learning flute so that the name could stick. Yet another joke regarding names . During my school days there were two S.K.Balasubramanians in our class. one was very slim , another (myself) was stout. The teacher referred to us as gundu Balu and olli Balu . Once while reading the maths examn marks S.K. BALASUBRAMANIAN 94. when i stood up , he said 'gundu , nee illeda, olli BALU , Athai tiuppi potta unnudaiya mark49 :@ :: gobilalitha

I am guessing here. O.S. Arun's father's name is O. V. Sundaresa Iyer. Can you confirm?
I am also guessing that you reversed the numbers again when you took the marks (written on a slate with chalk) home to show to your father, who congratulated you on that achievement
