VEENA VIDUSHI VIDHYA SHANKAR

Post by venu sundar »

The death of Mrs Vidhya Shankar is a very big loss to music world in general and the melody of Veena in particular. One of the pioneers in the instrument of Veena Mrs VS will be very much long remembered by many of her fans and friends.I am the son of Chitti of Manikkodi fame and Vidya Aunty has visited us many a time along with the famed dance artiste late Chndralekha and they used to discuss music and fine arts for hours in our home.
VS comes from a very learned family and her dad was one of the pioneers of the elite and most dignified Music Academy when it was founded many years ago.VS was closely related to 2 of our famed Nobel winners the late great Sir CV Raman and Dr, S.Chandrasekar.VS madam has penned few books on music and her study of Saint Sri.Thyagaya was one of the best on the subject.VS had a close connection with the prestigious Children Gardens School and it is the area near which her family lived for many decades.VS was a very big philonthraphist and helped many poor and downtrodden.Physically VS is no more but she will surely live in the hearts of many through the melodious music of Veena. We pray for her.!

Yes, very sad news. Read the article in the Hindu (http://www.thehindu.com/arts/music/article495141.ece). Smt vidyā śankar's contribution to CM is notable, especially her scholarly outlook and publications, particularly the book on śyāmā śāstri's compositions. May vaiṇika pravĪṇā's soul rest in peace.
