Abhishek Raghuram at bhairavi puduchery on 4-7-2010
Abhishek Raghuram- Vocal
Akkarai Subbulakshmi- violin
Patri Satish kumar- Mrudangam.
Here is the menu:
Sarasuda—varnam Saveri
Raama Nannu brovara- harikamboji-Thiagarajar
Maa ramanan-Hindolam Papanasam Sivan(R and S)
Manaviala kinchara-Nalina kanthi-Thiagarajar (S)
Yenna Solli Azhaithaal- Kaanada- Ambujam Krishna(Rand S)
Paaduvaai Maname-ragamalika-Surajaanandha
(bhairavi, suddha bhairavi, vasantha bhairavi, sindhu bhairavi)
Madura puri nilaye- R T P- poorvikalyani- thani (Rupakam)
Vellaithamarai-Bhimplas- Subrahmanya Bharathi
Kann kalangudhe- Saranga- composer??
pavamaana-Sowrashtram.
Abhishek , grandson of the maestro mrudangist Palghat shri R Raghu, was in great form. Hindolam was emotive, indolent and reposeful .In contrast manaviala was superfast with electrifying swaraprathara. Kaanada Alapana( not often heard these days) was done in extenso. Surajananda’s lyrics in four verses in the four derivatives of bhairavi, each followed by a crisp swarakorvai(Chittaswaram ?) came out splendidly. Poorvikalyani was the main piece(and masterpiece) of the concert: Alapana 15 mts- violin 12 mts ( Akkarai Subbulakshmi’s playing was classical and melodious , followed by thanam and thani 15 mts.Patri Satish kumar’s dextrous playing matched the speed and variety of the swara patterns. Every time his moras enhanced the krithi’s closing impact.
. Young Abhishek is gifted with a resonant bright voice and has good mastery over rhythm as revealed by his fluent swara weaving. His non- boisterous stage composure is another plus point.

Thanks for the review. There is an obvious bend towards Tamil numbers. Whose disciple is he? How old? I think there was a concert of his recently also in Bangalore . Will watch out! Lot of young talent pouring in. Problem of plenty which is anyhow welcome

Ponbhairavi,
Your review on Abishek Raghuram is apt, succinct and rightly captured. Yesterday (4th July) Sri Abishek Raghuram sang with full throated ease and I saw that the rasikas present were totally absorbed. All rasikas were lifted to the world of Abishek 'sMusic and came back only after his mangalam. Unfortunately some rasikas feel that only the high profiled artists can sing very well and they used to attend only such programmes. But yesterday Sri. Abishek proved that that attitude is wrong and very clearly sent a message that youngsters can also be equal or almost equal to the high profiled artists. Keep it up Abishek.

Very nice pictures of the young artistes and of the audience.
Dinamalar has published a nice picture too. Next time they publish a photograph, I hope they get the venue name right. SocietE doesn't have to be followed by ProgressistE to rhyme(!). Don't the locals say in a way where the 'e' at the end silent? Or, over the years has the pronunciation changed?
Happy that you are holding monthly concerts and are also encouraging members and their families to participate in singing in the month of November. I don't know if there are many cities in TN and in other states (but for the major ones. of course) which hold regular monthly concerts.
Abhishek is an example of many young CM artistes who are coming up--which means, they need more places to sing in!
I am sure the Bhairavi banner looks pretty but it does not show up properly in photographs

I like those multi-color jamakkALams in the hall and the nice wooden pillars. Cozy ambience for music.
dinamalar spelled it as "subbhalakshmi". Her name is akkarai subhalakshmi with only one 'b'.

Dear arasi,
Thank you for your suggestion. I will see that the Tamil translation of the French Name is corrected. Thanks to our members’ encouragement that we have been giving every month one programme for the last 28 years and it is a mixture of young artists and stalwarts. We are very particular about one programme a month since many carnatic music lovers of Puducherry do not have many opportunities to listen to Carnatic music live. I hope with the grace of God and with well wishes of rasikas like you we hope to improve the performance of Bhairavi music circle much much further. Again I assure you that the mistake will be corrected.

Dear Mahakavi,
The ‘multi colour Jamakkalam’ is spread more to keep up the old way of conducting Canartic Music programmes. At least in some part of the hall we spread. It is a traditional symbol. Like you, Many artists also appreciate the ambiance of the hall.
