Accompaniments.
Usha Rajagopalan- Violin.
B.Ganapathy Raman-Mridangam,
The violinist was elaborating Reethi Gowlai as I was entering the minihall to the concert moderately attended. Could someone complete the list?
*Mamahridaye- Reethi Gowlai
*Karunithov thaye--maye-Saraswathi Manohari inTisra nadai .This is the only composition of MV in Kannada(language) she said. The chittaswaram was very nice. The way the accompanists followed this with anticipation- as if they are already familiar with this rare one!
*Gokula nilaya kripalaya Govardanadara Murali-Aberi.
*Manasavajasa....sivasa-Begada-RNS.chittaswaram.
Tani.
Thillana-Kanada-Tisra Rupagam
mangalam.
Great effort on her part to have brought the rare nos( I have not heard any of them before.)
Nice to see her disciple giving vocal support was initiated on these kritis very well throughout.
Begada raga elaboration took a lot of time.I thought one more kriti could have been covered if more time was given beyond 8.30 or by pruning the Raga time!(By the way, what do forumites think -Does raga Begada offer scope for very detailed treatment?)

not only does begaDa afford for elaboration, it has been sung as the main rAga/ taken up for pallavi several times, by several artistes.satyabalu wrote: Begada raga elaboration took a lot of time.I thought one more kriti could have been covered if more time was given beyond 8.30 or by pruning the Raga time!(By the way, what do forumites think -Does raga Begada offer scope for very detailed treatment?)
VoleTi especially was exceptional at making graceful expositions of the rAga. He has sung at least 4 different pallavis.
It is only appropriate that a vAsudevAcharya special should include begaDa, as he was said to be very fond of/ good at elaborating it.
His guru - patnaM S.Iyer was dubbed Begada Subrahmanyayyar by MysUr sadAshiva raO; and apparently taught VasudevAcharya his own Ata-tAla varna - marachitluNDedi in this raga and then told him that there was nothing left to teach in begaDa; and that he(vasu) could pick up krti-s himself.

Yes indeed, Keerthi, Voleti was a Begada specialist, and could conjure up all sorts of sancharams! He could go on and on with the raga, and still have the audience want more of it. I do not remember the year, but he presented an eka-raga concert at Gayana Samaja Bangalore where the raga was Begada. Unforgettable. I wonder if the Gayana Samaja has a recording of this priceless concert.

Oh! I didn't know about that one.. He also started the idea of eka-raga concerts on Vijayawada radio, where he sang the begaDa suite, Dr.PANi sang thODi, and MLV sang kalyaNi.
Dr.PANi's concert was special in that he covered the swarajati-varnam-krti(s)-pallavi-padam-javali-tillana gamut in his thodi concert.
p.s - all of Voleti's begaDas are priceless, and wonderfully crafted cascades of ragabhava, while maintaining absolute fidelity to raga grammar.

Thank everyone for the clarification/info on Begada. Why then only a few take it for detailed treatment (as I have been hearing).
