MADRAS STRING QUATRET CONCERT AT KGS ON 02.07.2010.

There was a good attendance for the concert.

After his first concert at the Music Academy Mini hall, Sri V.S.Narasimhan’s Madras String Quartet concerts are becoming popular because of his novel presentation
of Western Classical music combined with Carnatic music. Uniqueness of the presentation was sweet melody without any percussion accompaniment.

With his deep commitment to western classical music, he was eager to present his first part of the concert purely western Classical music for about 40 Minutes followed by Carnatic music.

He wanted the Chennai Rasikas should try to understand and appreciate more of western classical music in due course.
To achieve this, in the KGS concert, he has arranged a Lec Dem on how the harmony content in western music is achieved with the help of Sri Ramesh Vinayakam, a good composer of western classical music [In addition to a good composer for Carnatic and film music], presented the Lec Dem.

Taking the first line of the simple Geetham of Carnatic music “Rara Venu Gopalabala...”, formatted a simple Harmonies of western music hue step by step progressing
to the final shape of western harmony for the song “Rara Venu Gopalabala...”.

The functions of pitch from the various instruments Cello, Viola, Second Violin and first Violin were demonstrated and how these instruments are combined to produce the harmony for western classical music.

This Demo was well appreciated by the audience, which have elicited some basic understanding of the development of harmony in western classical music. The demo was conducted for about 50 minutes. The perfect co ordination between Sri Ramesh Vinayakam and Sri V.S.Narasimhan was a plus point.

After the Demo, Madras String Quartet played many Carnatic krithis.

The next highlight was “ Sri Harikesanallur Muthaiya Bhagavather’s famous 'English Note' popularized by none other than Sri late Madurai Mani Iyer. Sri HMB has composed The English Note more oriented towards Carnatic music.

Sri Ramesh Vinayakam had composed the same song in western harmony to be played by the String Quartet.

The concert ended with “Krishna Nee Begane Baro” in Yamunakalyani.

Sri V.S.Narasimhan played this song incorporating a very melodies short sancharams.

Nageshwaran Sir,

Thank you for the music. Absolutely brilliant the creation of Shri Narsimhan. The violin has a very unique and crisp sound. It is absolute bliss. Hats off to the accompanying artist. They all know each other and their music very well.

Dear Rasikas,

While recording the concert of sri V.S.Narasimhan at KGS, the recording
failed for a minute or so without my knowledge and the same was
uploaded for the " English note" of HMB in western harmony.

Sri V.S.Narasimhan had observed the silence in the song and
filled up the missing phrase and sent me the full version of the same.

The download link for the same is given below.
